Vintage plates coming back to California

Guess mine will be a little different as I chose the yellow background/black numbers to go with my yellow/black GT. Figured it would look better than the black/yellow version. Hopefully they get they get the minimum order threshold soon so we can then start the 9 month wait to actually get the plates.

1200 to go!

I don't believe it's the total for all 3 styles, I think one style needs 7500.

Under frequently asked questions.

Q16: How many pre-orders does the DMV need to receive in order to initiate the production of the Legacy Plates?
A: The law enacting this plate program (AB 1658, 2012) allows until January 1, 2015 to reach the required minimum 7,500 pre-orders for any one of the plate styles.

I had to go back and read that. Dammit. Think you're right. Missed the 'one' part. If it had said 'any of the plate styles', we may be in business. Although I'm still not 100% sure. Can anyone clarify?

Well I think I'm looking good for the black plates for my 64 Galaxie 500...."R CODE".

Ed -

This is the plate that's been on my Mustang since 1966, when it was registered by dealership upon receipt, after my order had been fullfilled by the assembly plant in San Jose. The sticker from every year has been placed upon the previous year's. I'll be driving it to Las Vegas tomorrow for SEMA.

Ralphie you gotta been kidding. Don't you peel/cut off some old stickers when they start piling up to high? :lol

I live in a tiny satellite town south of Fresno. You know as well as I do that this is all I have to look forward to, Gary.:frown

I like the Black & Gold. Pittsburgh colors baby!

I predict a mass migration of Smoky and the Bandit TransAms to CA just for the black and gold plates.

Before you start to pick at my Pittsburgh heritage Bonehead remember this . . .

"Gulf Oil was a major global oil company from the 1900s to the 1980s. The eighth-largest American manufacturing company in 1941 and the ninth-largest in 1979, Gulf Oil was one of the so-called Seven Sisters oil companies. Prior to its merger with Standard Oil of California, Gulf was one of the chief instruments of the legendary Mellon family fortune; both Gulf and Mellon Financial had their headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Gulf's former headquarters, originally referred to as "the Gulf Building" (now the Gulf Tower office condos), is an art-deco skyscraper. The tallest building in Pittsburgh until 1970, when it was eclipsed by the U.S. Steel Tower, it is capped by a step pyramid structure several stories high. Until the late 1970s, the entire top was illuminated, changing color with changes in barometric pressure to provide a weather indicator that could be seen for many miles."

Obviously my entire family were in the steel industry in one capacity or another. My Grandfather, an iron worker, worked on the Gulf and Steel building's construction. We were very proud of that.

It's been 6 mos since I sent in my check which the DMV cashed so I checked with the AAA DMV rep and she referred me to the Calif. dmv web site. The black and gold will be the only legacy plates produced. If the dmv cashed your check your plate selection has been approved. The implemention process will take 9-12 mos. And you wonder why Ca business are leaving the state! Based upon my calculation the plates will start rolling out of the prisons in Jan 2015. Also the legacy places will have a reflective finish (which makes them more visable to LIDAR) for saftey.

Seems like the prisoners at the penitentiary where they produce the plates must be too busy to take on additional work - probably requires a 2nd shift and they don't want double time (pun) -
