I believe this has been covered before, but I would like your opinion on having the Ford dealer perform the recall or buying the parts from someone like Accufab and having an independant mechanic perform the update. Or just pick up the Ford parts and using your own mechanic. I promise not to shirk my Forum reading in the future. Thanks

6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other regarding both questions. It all boils down to what you're most comfortable doing. Either the Accufab OR the new thick washer Ford kit will do equally well. You'll never touch either again. If you don't want to do it yourself (or just arn't comfortable doing it) and you know of a qualified mechanic (Ford dealer or whomever) you'd trust -go that route.

Based on my recent experience, I would make sure whoever you use has a good reputation, and preferably has worked on GTs before. If you have a good Ford dealer in the area that has done at least one before, that is the route I would go. The SVT Ford dealer I used first lifted my car wrong, and I put a quick stop to them doing any more. The second was superb. They had a drive on ramp that was designed for very low clearance cars, the mechanic had done three before mine, and was extremely careful with the car, protecting all the surfaces where he was working.

I guess I am just reinforcing using someone you know is a very good shop and preferably knows the GT.

Just had mine done Monday by the local Ford dealer (also where I had bought the car). I trust their mechanic and he had already done one car before mine. And they let me watch entire procedure.
