This is in response to some chats I had with folks at VIR for the Rally.

Many of you were unsure if your GT or other collector car used on Track was covered by your insurance company (whether a specialist like us or a standard carrier). I have done some research and here are some options for those whose policies will not cover track or driver ed:

This program with Lockton seems to be very good - but with anything as high risk as Track Coverage whether timed, non-timed, driver ed - you will pay a good premium.

However, IMO if you have a 6 figure car it is well worth it. Like a DUI, taxi ride might be $20-$60, lawyer etc would cost you $1500 and up.

I checked with my carrier and they do not cover any driving events held at a track such as VIR, Sebring, wherever. I then looked into the track day insurance and you can get it for the event/day. I think it was around $1100 for a two day event. That coverage was only for the car and NOT for any damage you do to another car/building/structure etc.. It also did not cover any injury claim. Many life insurance policies also are voided for track events but not all. In all candor I spoke directly with the president of the agency that writes all my fun cars. He is a Ford GT owner himself and he was very apologetic but straightforward about it. We both agreed that it is ironic since the GT is probably safer on the track than driving on the street (around here at least).

I remember listening in at the rally about this....thinking if anyone did offer it it would be very pricey.

I noticed the viper in the claim was red....glad I drive a black car
