Tipping truck driver etiquette

Just asking for opinions here.

I have had a few cars deleivered and I have always tipped the delivery driver.

What do you think? Overkill or an appropriate thank you? Tips were usually a C note (or a little more) although to tow a boat here from Miami behind a F-550 (with one driver) I gave him $500. One way job took all week for him.

I am sure some will say "if you can afford it, go ahead" but I am really looking to discuss what is appropriate. It would be good for future reference too.

BTW Fee was $1700 from Houston to here in the Seattle area(enclosed).

Car arrives tomorrow at 5pm :biggrin

.

C note sounds OK, 2 if you want.

I used to tend bar and own a restaurant so I usually over tip in most situations. Service has to really suck for me to tip low.....and it does happen occasionally. :ack

My advice would be to watch how he unloads/moves your car, see the kind of care he takes with it and make the decision from there. The service is not complete till the car is off the truck.

I've moved many cars back in my day and 90% never tipped anything.
A few times I got a 20 because i had to wait on the customer to show up or the car had issues and needed extra work to get it loaded (flat tires dead battery and so on).

$100 to 200 is what I do. Depends on how careful they are about things and how good they were with communications during the transport.

Well, I am taking a couple C notes with me. I am meeting him at a Kmart parking lot to make it easy for him.

I will post when I get home. Good discussion, thanks guys.
