Tightening Emergency Cable

I have noticed my Emergency Cable has stretched and on an incline will not hold well. How difficult is it to tightening. My tech mechanic say's you have to remove the console and is worried about damaging a part of the console and having to replace it after removal. Any truth to that? Tech book states to order a console part in case damaged?:confused Even Dealers have questions from time to time. We don't know everything. Tomy Hamon PS I'm sure this astute group has the answer. Thanks:thumbsup

Don't have to remove the whole console, just the parking brake bezel and boot. The cable is supose to self adjust, but may need a little help.

No need to remove the whole console. The adjuster is a 10mm nut that is under the handbrake boot. To access it you need to lift the handbrake plate (it clips on the central console) and rubber boot.

I am going to have to do the same as my handbrake is just useless....

My service tech at my dealer performed it on mine; and the service manager treated it as an free service as there has been no wear (on the emergency brake's caliper pads) to require a readjustment.

**** Hold The Press ****

There is NO need to remove anything.

The rubber boot can be lifted while the bezel remains in place and then as shared a 10MM deep socket will quickly allow for the adjusting and then simply tuck the rubber boot back into position; easy

Thanks Bill mine don't need it but it sounds like something I can do so:biggrin

If you prefer to remove the bezel, just be safe and use a lot of blue tape around the console opening and brake lever. It comes off easily by pulling up firmly.

"BLUE TAPE" now you are speaking my language; Shadowman likes blue tape

Now as for removing the bezel; the only reason to do so is to say that you could and did and then because of the blue tape you did not cause a scratch however mechanically speaking it serves no value to do so.
