There has to be an easier way to Lift a Ford GT

What the H am i doing wrong? It has taken me over 2 hours to put my GT on a lift. I had to measure the distance (inside) between the lift (A symetrical) & the car. Once i had it in a good place i then had to measure how much wood & the thickness i will need to drive up on in order to, to clear. Then i had to drive on to my 4 fost lift, take off my belly pan in the rear along with the side splitters so as not to F them up. I tried to take off the Rocker Panels also but it looks like a major project to get to those. Car is finally on the lift...

Push it off a cliff. When it lands on it's roof, everything underneath will be accessible. :biggrin

Don't complain. I took me ~ 20 hours to install a set of FRPP long tube rear exit headers laying on my back.

Can you get a pair of rolling jack bridges for your 4 post lift? I have this set-up at the shop and a scissor lift in the garage at home. The 4 post with jacks makes the best all around solution for me.

+1 :thumbsup

This setup is ideal for the GT!

I can't stop laughing......

Yeah, me too... I've had mine on the lift for about a week now. Took me about an hour to get it positioned just right, get the arms situated, get the blocks of wood under the lifting points, and so on.

Now, I don't want to take it back off until every last thing is checked, and re-checked.

My OCD now requires me to check for run-out on the half shaft couplings with a dial indicator before going out for a test drive. (it's easier to check now, rather than have to get it back up in the air again)

Ahhh, the joys of GT ownership and self maintenance.

Gentlemen:

There's a outfit called "Direct Lift" that makes a 4 poster that has CHANNELS along the length of both ramps/rails (whatever you call what you park the car on). They have a special scissor jack assbly that slides back & forth on rollers along said channels the full length of the rails. The jack has ADJUSTABLE arms you can push in or out to locate the lift pads where you want 'em. ('Jack operates by AIR or manual.)

Now, you would need TWO of these jack assemblies (one for the front, one for the back) if you wanna lift the whole car at once - but this puppy appears to be the cat's meow for lifting the GT via it's lifting points.

They also make these lifts in 2 or 3 widths/lengths!

'Only BAD thing (far as I'm concerned) is: it's made in China.:frown

I have a brochure on this lift in my files if anyone wants a phone #.

(And the usual personal "disclaimer" applies...'don't know 'em, don't work for 'em, 'couldn't care less if they go broke, etc.)

BendPak HD-9B works great with the FGT... have the rolling jack as decrtibed above and soon I'll be buying a tray for the front to allow; first the rolling jack to lift first the front, place on jack stands - then second move the rolling jack to the back for final all corner lift. Why did I choose Bendpak - ASI certified, adjustable ramp width to 44" for the FGT, 116" between columns so you don't have to thread the needle, drive on ramps for even a lowered FGT (1" front, 1" back), column height of 88" for my 9' garage, free shipping and most of the components are made in US (I think).

This let's me get a 69 Mach 1 on top while the heart is being rebuilt and I drive the FGT....:thumbsup

I'm sure there are other good lifts but I have been more than happy with mine to date. I'm not going to solve the age old question of 2 or 4 post but I know I can take mine with me easily when I leave to a bigger garage and nobody will know its been there!

I WANT ROYALTIES PAID IMMEDITELY!!!!!! Or mebbe a Shirley Temple in 'Vegas?

(Re: made in USA or China: 'seems a lot of companies have their parts MADE in China & ASSEMBLED here...soooooooooo..?????)

Use low profile floor jack and jack stands. I've put 1161 in the air three times in the last two weeks. Less than 10 minutes each time including removing the wheels.

Yes I also have OCD ... its easier to clean the underside of the car with it on stands. :biggrin

Note---

A couple guys have sent me pm's and emails asking what type of jack I use. Its a MagicLift 2 ton Low profile hydraulic service jack by Omega Lift model number 29023. It was a gift a year or so back. Works great. Other than that I use EP's trademarked endorsement notice.

Check out Rotary Lift. I plan on getting another one from Rotary that is wider and longer as the GT will not fit on my current 4 post that houses the Cobra and 997. The GT is too wide. I am getting two rolling jack trays in the event I'm develope the nerve and try and service it my self....but then again the GT Guys are only a phone call away!!!

I have a Bendpak HD-9 wide version with 2 rolling jacks. The rolling jacks air lines are nicely integrated into the lift. Where the same air line input for the safety interlocks are routed to the jacks under the ramps. I don't know if other brands do this or just have a separate air port for each jack.

I am also looking for a lift. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to order a BendPak HD9 from that they would recommend? I live in the Houston Texas area.

Thanks,

Mark, See if they will give you a discount if you order two. I need one as well.

I will be looking for new lift as well. I have a Cytek Double Park, but they must be out of business. I have left several phone calls to see if they have the rolling jacks. No return call as of yet. I have contacted other mfg's to see if their jacks will work with my lift. No one knows.....
