The Forum Wars...Mullet GT vs. Supra this weekend

You think the R6s would be better? The A6s maybe but the Rs would need at least as much heat as the Pilot Cups... right (I'm no tire expert here, just asking)?

The A6's would be better, actually the best DOT tire choice for this event but they don't come in GT sizes any more and since he's running R6 in the back already, and thus my question. I ran two sets of PSC on a GT3 and a Challenge Stradale before and they were worse than PS2's when cold, at least the R6 will stick better than the PSC when cold as the compound is much much softer. A proper burnout is a must for the R6 in the 1/8, and I'd even light the tires up a little before hitting the timing lights in autox. PSC in the front of the GT will push like a pig before the one minute and change autox run is over. It must not be easy to steer with throttle on a TT/SC GT to get it rotate!!!

Why don't run R6 at the front also? The problem w/ the Pilot Cups at the front is that the front won't get to heat up in their slalom and autox courses fast enough for you to get any grip.
I attended last year's event at the Irwindale Speedway here in Socal and they allowed anyone in and people were able to take pictures and videos also.

I don't have a front set of R6's. It's doubtful any (front) tire would get heated up considering it will be between 50-65 degrees at the event. We have to use the same set of tires for all the events.

If you get some A6's for the front, I have some rear A6's already mounted that I can donate for a good cause....which this most certainly is!

appreciate the offer but Ryan and I already decided on tires. Gotta be at the track at 6am.

Mullet power will reign.

If the Supra driver loses you should insist on him getting a Mullet. Good luck...

What a great gesture!! :thumbsup:thumbsup

Hey, this is Mullet and this is involving speed. It is not if the Supra loses but when!! :biggrin And if there is a side wager you should give him the mullet at the track. That is a picture we want to see. :lol :cheers

This will be great to see.

Hey Chip, it's interesting that the #1 ranking on Forum Wars is still the Shelby GT!!! My guess is that another GT will soon replace it!

The Mullet has been keeping me updated. It's been a battle. :box:

What is the short story up to now?

Update later tonight or early in the morning. Been a long day and still at the track doing the media stuff.

Ok, I just got back home from the event. First was the 1/4 runs at 8:00am. Temp was around 45 degrees and traction was a issue me and my opponent. His Supra has run 8.8 at 160 mph on drag radials. I knew I had my hands full in the 1/4. All I wanted to do was stay somewhat close and not get embarrassed. We did 3 runs head to head and his best time was 10.51 at 148, mine was a 10.53 at 144. He got me by .02 and a win is a win. I had to win the next two events to win the matchup. I knew I had the advantage on the autocross and slalom considering his car is setup for straight line stuff.

Second event was the Autocross. I went first and worked up my speed each lap. I choose to stay in second th whole time and in hindsight I would have used first and second. I came back in and my time was a couple of seconds slower than I thought I would run. I wasn't too worried. Ryan went out and did a couple laps and was running 3-4 seconds slower than my time. His third lap was within 1.7 seconds of my fastest time and i got slightly worried. I knew he was going to push it e last 2 laps. He came through the start/finish line pretty hot and drifted the car around the first turn and almost lost it. He got a standing ovation for that one. He then spun twice during that lap. I ended up beating him by 1.7 second.

Score is now tied and the slalom will be the tie breaker....no pressure. ;)

The slalom was pretty quick and easy. Ryan went first and did fairly well. I then figured it was time to hang it out and put it away. First run I went in pretty hot and nailed it pretty well. Next two runs I did about the same but hit a cone (2second penalty) on the last run. my time as faster than Ryan. This one went to me so I won the event.

Mark a victory for the Ford GT Forum!

Dave, thanks for letting me use the forum name in the event.

They did a lot of media stuff and they will make a 5-6 minute hilight reel for each car. They will also pick 3-4 cars and make a 30 minute show for SpeedTV. I'll definitely let you guys know when it airs.

I'm beat, off to bed.

Good job man!
