I was talking to my graphics guy yesterday about the GT as he is now full on making gulf logos and roundels. I also have him doing reproduction graphics that appeared on the JWA cars.

But when we where talking he motioned me out to the shop and showed a "wrap job" on a pro fishing boat that just blew my mind. Tons of complex angles and curves. I asked him who made the pattern for the boat and he said he did.

Well long and the short of it. Are any of you guys interested in having a custom paint protection kit made for the GT. I know several companies make kits but I mean one that actually covers all the things that we want to cover.

Mirrors, A pillars, front edge of roof, door sill (inside), inside of read bumper, nose of car, inside the ducts of hood, full length of car underside, windshield etc.... The material is easy to get and we could probably spec it out. If you guys are interested I think I am ... we'd defer the cost of the pattern over the units we did in the initial run.

The problem for the rest of us who don't live in your area would be finding a competent installer.

Is it completely clear like some of the established protection films?

Can we buy just certain pieces if we already have a film kit on most of the car?

I agree that the installer would be the hard part for people away. But I think its not as hard to do as most think it is ... if the pattern is right.

On the film ... yes we would use a completely clear film UV/IR rated non-yellowing yada yada yada.

As for parts of kit ... sure .. I don't see that is an issue since it would be a "forum" project. we broke up the order for logos and roundels so that it was easy for everyone ..... except me ... man I never thought that I'd see that much. But my guy is happy and is making extras so he has them around.

Its a small shop and he's been on his own for a year. Was lead guy in a major shop for a decade and just got the urge one day to go into business for himself. So I have helped him out. Good guy and would do whatever I (we) ask. Does really good work .... and remember I am picky. If it is not right in prototypes he makes it right before he goes into production.

Steve, after taking on the decals and roundels as well as the white tire paint, I'm amazed that you're ready for more - so soon. However, I'm glad that you are and please put me down for one.

I must be nuts but it just hit me after my drive back from Dallas that the kits that I saw never really covered the areas where I am always wiping off stuff that I do not want to touch the paint.

If we can get ten people then I think we'll do it anything less than that its just not cost effective for him to take the time out to do the pattern.

So I have two now.

If Cantwell signed up that would be the rest but ..... :biggrin

For the record.. X- pel has complete kits. Full hoods , Full fenders etc.. Their die cut kits fit perfect.. The Proline windshield protective film is much different than the clear body film. With regular body film on the windshield the visibility is not very good and it will scratch very easily. I tried it before I found the Proline stuff at SEMA..
Not trying to ruin you deal just thought you might want to know some of this already exist if you don't want to recreate the wheel so to speak..
Now your guy may do them for cheaper cause the X-pel full front kit is pricey. I think it would be nice to have some pieces that others don't offer. I've done my sill plate, Tunnel cover next to the the seat belt clips, Front edge of the roof, front edge of the side scoops. The bottom of the car maybe difficult because of the dimples. Just my 2 cents.. Steve thanks for your efforts. I know how time consuming some of these side projects are !!

Steve, do you know how the two would compare as far as coverage, price, quality, etc.?

Your right on track there Brian ... one of the things that I am looking at this year at SEMA is material for these little projects. I also agree that reinventing the wheel is not necessary but rather finding a source to suppliment these other sources is. Someone in the family so to speak.

Your exactly in my thought process about tunnel kits and sill kits as well as kits for certain places in the engine bay. I also want something on the inside of my hood so I don't scratch the CF when I place a back pack or something slightly larger than what it is designed for.

Also as a winter project I am planning on doing a redesigned pan in the front there ... probably out of CF using the negative mold technique that we talked about at the rally. Also have been working on intake plenum that we discussed also. I have that almost carved. The great thing about not sleeping due to stress is that you get more of these side projects done. :biggrin:biggrin

Thats all in the concept stage now.... I am looking for input from owners on what they would like to see before I go spec something. I will be looking at material at SEMA for this project though.

yes since sema I have hired my local guy to begin to build kits and I am finishing up paperwork for a couple of companies products that we saw at sema. including that shatterproof glass film. .. cool stuff.:thumbsup

I am currently working with a web designer to make an interface for people to order products through. I guess my database of wholesale suppliers is about to become a cottage business.

So any of you that have Lotus, Ford GTs, Toyota Land Cruisers, or BMW's .... I have a full parts database and supply chain. I need to talk to DBK about sponsorship so maybe in a few weeks the site will have another booster. :biggrin its a niche business ...LOL!!!

who knows. it just made sense ... so here we go on another ride. I guess I need to quit having hobbies as they always migrate into business somehow.

just don't let my day job know. :lol
