Storing car......

I have a low mileage '06 that I drive about 1x a month (20 minutes or so). Any thoughts on maximum length of time between oil changes? I'm putting the car on non-op for a while so, unless I get a flat bed, taking it for an oil change is problematic.

I know you smart guys are wondering how I drive it once a month, I live in a private development. Thanks for any suggestions!

The generally accepted practice is to change oil in a low miles/no miles car at least once a year regardless.

Empty,
Thanks for the response. I know the general concensus is 1 year. I guess I'm looking for someone to say "as long as you're driving it, a couple of years is fine".
I guess I'm getting a flatbed........

Hmmmmmm, unless of course one of the guys who works on cars on the site could do a change at my house, I have a lift (and look over the car) for a reasonable price......

I'm in Westlake Village.

It isn't all that hard to do yourself, especially with a lift. If you use the search you'll get all the info you need.

As Paul suggests, it's really no big deal to change it yourself IF you want to:

Post #2 spells everything out pretty completely. HOWEVER! You'll want to PRIME the oil system before you start the car per oil change step #14!!! The priming proceedure isn't mentioned there, BUT IT'S DONE as follows:

1. Turn the key to the on position.
2. Push the accelerator pedal to the FLOOR and HOLD IT THERE! Then,
3. Push the start button (with the acc. pedal STILL on the floor! The engine will turn over at this point, but, it will not start with the acc. pedal on the floor).
4. Let engine crank (with the acc. pedal STILL on the floor) until you see oil pressure registered on the dash gauge.
5. Upon seeing pressure, take 'finger off the starter button first, THEN release the accelerator pedal.
6. Then start the car as usual.

Otherwise, tell us where "Westlake Village" is and maybe someone who lives near there can suggest a reliable place to take your GT?

Max once a year ESPECIALLY if you drive it very little.

That's what I love about this forum. Friendship & Brotherhood.

Where else could someone post a question like this, and then get instant, multiple replies with dead on correct answers and brothers offering help?

I am seriously about to cry. I think I will go out to my shop and start her up and take her for a run, just to listen to the beautiful harmony of the engine purr ... and roar. :)

Heritage Club, the oil change is fairly simple, especially if you have a lift. I highly recommended you drive your girl more.

Westlake Village, California? If so, contact Kendall, www.cooltechllc.com, forum Vendor sponsor. He is located in Newhall, California which is appox 37 miles from Westlake Village. (661) 254-7948.

Good luck.

Those are only necessary if yuh live in Jeeeeerzee! :lol

Thanks everyone. I'm gonna call Kendall. My days of screwing around with expensive cars are over with.

I need the time to practice my spelling........ obviously.

You dont drive it. SELL IT TO ME! :)

Hi Heritage Club. This is Kendall, aka "Not a Ferrari" or "Nota4re", or Cool Tech. Call me anything you want - everyone else does! LOL. Yeah, let's arrange a time maybe during the Holidays and we can come over to your place and walk you through an oil change on the GT. No problem. You are close to me as i live in Newhall and work in Woodland Hills - not far from you. Alternatively, if you wanted to stop by sometime and see some GT eye candy, feel free to ping me. It seems that lately we always have a few cars over here - currently an all-black, a certain Moderator's car, a Heritage with every mod known to mankind and two more (from Hawaii). Of course there's my Tungsten car which never seems to get time on the lift these days. In summary, we'd be happy to demo the procedure on your car or could coordinate to show you from our "shop". Email is best way to raise me.... or cell phone at (818) 254-6055.

Kendall et al, is your answer.... I'm what yoiu call super anal and he puts up with me, so does Ryan, another mechanic extraordinaire at his shop/house, so there's your answer... expensive as heck, but hey he always buys lunch so he's certainly worth it :lol :lol :lol

If you go to Kendall's just take some Donuts with you... When he installed my Whipple he devoured 12 creme filled donuts and forgot to charge me.

Donuts in lieu of payment, sounds like a great deal!

I thought you would have flipped Kendall a gold coin.

You got a good point there EP....................... can't argue with that logic !

I had rats make mincemeat of the wiring harness on my F-350 that I drive every day.

$2000 to fix on an ole' F-350.

Took me a while to find them...hiding in the garden shed. They were too smart for old traps, had to poison them.

Kendall,

Will treat you right!
