Yep, tropical breezes and Mai Tai's. Life is good. I decide to call the local exotic car rental place to see what kind of toys I can get my hands on ... just sold the Ferrari *boo, somebody wrecked the Viper last week *sigh, and the Corvette is out; I have to settle for an Audi TT (don't laugh).

Then the guy on the phone starts to question my driving ability. "You know sir these cars have a lot of power and it is easy to lose control." I told him I have a Ford GT and am somewhat familiar with torquey cars, but we are talking about an Audi right? I failed to add that I recently spun my GT out of control and cost my insurance company $200,000. "Yes Sir, also sir, if they catch you going more than 20mph over the speed limit here it is an instant trip to jail." I didn't bother telling him I wasn't really buying that but I am a bail bondsmen so if they do I would just call my friend 'Dog' (that’s a joke). I just took the keys and puttered away (that's what you do in an Audi TT... you putter away)

Good times. Aloha!

Wish I was there with you man. It cold, rainy and windy here. Not GT driving weather.... :thumbsdow

Last time I was in Hawaii there was no such THING as renting an exotic car (circa 1971!).

Larry, did we have cars back in '71? Think we were still running rickshaws.

Fubar (very apropos considering the unfortunate mishap), I'm currently in NYC but flying out first thing in the morning and be back tomorrow afternoon. If you plan on stopping over on Oahu, let me know.

CLOSE!!!!!!

Can you say, "1971 Datsun 4-spd sedan"?! :ack:willy:rofl

I am afraid we are only going to be on Maui for this trip.

I thought it was a bit ironic that he would be lecturing me about that... but it changed from irony to sarcasm when considered in the context of a Audio TT :biggrin

Me and the wife are about the drop the top and cruise up the island for a while.

Aloha :thumbsup

Answer for your dilemma

Step 1 - Go to Hertz, rent their Shelby.
Step 2 - Try to make the 'Road to Hana' in <2.5 hours. (leave Lahaina b4 7am)
Step 3 - Rest 1 hr in sun - eat lunch
Step 4 - Return trip to Lahaina <3.5 hours
Step 5 - Mai Tais as necesssary to unwind from one lane roads/tourist travel/
Step 6 - Repeat as required.

Wish I was with you Mark... damn cold here in Fresno today, only got up to 56 degrees.
I hate Winter. Earlier this week I was in Racine and Omaha... now that was cold.

Not near as cold here in NYC as last month when it was in the teens (windchill) and snowing.

Yesterday, rented a 350Z droptop in L.A. and had dinner with the Kendall Pond family. A nicer family and children one will not meet. I think Ryan is approaching teaching his father a trick or two about wrenching the FGTs.

when you've completed 1/2 of task two, continue the circle around the island. Don't go back the way you came..

I've done the Road to Hana before. It seemed like one of those things you only need to do once. Unbeleivable beauty on the ride up to Hana and the smell of searing brakes on your way down.

The rental car company was very spacific... I could not take the TT all the way around. Besides they said the dirt portion of the road trip is somewhat washed out currently.

Mark,
Thanks for letting us live vicariously through your Hawaiian experience!
What a life! And sounds like a great time...

Ah yes, 1971 was a good year....spent 9 months of it in my mother's womb. :biggrin

Fubar: Hope you're having a great time. It froze in Dallas last night!
