Hello Forum,

Can anyone point me to an older thread on how to polish the carbon fiber on the back of the seats? I have tried car wax but that didn't do anything.

Thank you

Jack

If they are as rough as mine, it will take some serious finish work with a gel coat or thick clear paint that is cut and polished afterword. Nothing you can do by hand.

Who else read this and thought they were making CF seats in Warsaw? :lol

My passenger side seat back has some wear from sticking bags behind it on road trips, so I'd be interested in anyone's success as well.

Wow, Dave, that was a literal stretch. :biggrin

Somebody wake Shelby, he probably has as much a comparative on these as anyone. I have an early car, mine look great, but certainly aren't of the caliber of Kip's work. Perhaps Kip could chime in as well.

I did. Polish CF to go with the Frau (made by some middle aged German woman) leather.

You would have to re clear coat the back of your seats. The reason they look as bad as they do is because they don't have enough clear to begin with

Do you think this is fixable with a clear coat application?
.

Yes. We can fix it no problem

Is it difficult to take the upholstery off for shipping? I have never tried or really examined the seat in that way.

You don't remove the upholstery. The seat breaks down into two pieces (top & bottom). You ship the whole thing

No doubt that Shelby's solution would be better, but I did mine with Meguir's 'Ultimate Polish' and it worked out well enough for my purposes.

Were they as rough as mine to start?

Seems like taking them apart and just sending the shells would be best for shipping and handling tho.

You can NOT just send the shells. Your leather is glued to it. As I said, the seats do come into two pieces which make them much easier to package, but you will still be sending the entire seat.

Hard to say if mine were as rough, but Shelby has solved this issue many more times than I have and I'd trust his input. I've taken the interior out of virtually every car I own to do a really thorough cleaning, treating, resurfacing as needed. (Did it to the GT first week I had it.) I didn't spend a bunch of time on the GT seatbacks, just wanted an improvement. I'd imagine Shelby's results would be to a different level entirely.

What car is in the background here? Diablo?

OK, glued is glued. Just what I was asking.

P/M sent

Oh wow, good eye with not much to go on! That's a Ferrari 512BBi (Berlinetta Boxer), late 84 model, Daytona seats, fun vintage supercar.
