More POLICE STATE!

The police state is alive a well! Warning to L.A. drivers...

I hope that this doesn't end up like the San Diego scandal that occured a few years back.

Eff'ed up and Eff'ing scary!

You know what cracks me up the most? This state (I'm originally from Colorado, so it's easy for me to slam Cali without the blind "California is the center of the universe" view many natives have) likes to label itself as so progressive, so enlightened, and of course so supportive of individual freedoms while being "anti right wing, anti big business/corporate greed."

And at the end of the day, the politicians (once again!!!!) sell their soul in the name of revenue (because we all know these cameras have NOTHING to do with public safety).

Of course most governments behave this way, but the hypocrisy displayed by this state is awfully nauseating. :bang

ENZO BTR,

Very well said. Ayn Rand would be turning in her grave... :mad

It seems that most new laws are just s-l-o-w-l-y taking away our freedom. There will be no end to it. I just love it when a supreme or superior court judge will begin their statement saying; "I don't see where you have the right to X-Y-Z. . ."

The rest of you please don't start telling me how screwed other countries and states are. Damn it, a long time ago this used to be a pretty good place to live. Even though I voted for the jackball, I think Arnold needs to go also. He sure turned out to be a turd in the punch bowl...

They've been doing here in Texas for a few years. It's a huge money maker. So believe me when I tell you... it isnt going away. When neighboring towns start to hear about the income you'll see more.

Fu,

This seems to be sad but true. A city close to San Clemente, CA is bragging about their new money making RADAR camera system. If my home town does this crap, I'll try to get the entire city council recalled! :bs

Jay

Good luck trying to recall the bums in office. The government always wants more money, but the don't want to ask for it directly via a tax increase. So they try raising money the indirect way. Hell, what to stop them from making everyone get a license to walk (walking tax!) on the streets! They do that for the roads! There is no end to this type of BS.

Jay I am sorry in the end you will have to vote with your feet. In less that 25 years most of the people left in CA will be the ones looking for a handout and the ones that used to pay the bill will move to another state. Just study the demographic trends and projections.

Please don't Californicate Illinois.

BlackICE,

Yes, I suppose we might as well enjoy things while we can.

Bony tore me a new asshole for starting this thread in the Ford GT General Discussion area, so he did a good job and moved it here, instead. I wish that he could of picked a more passionate title instead of "ranting about a police state".

My purpose of this post was to let persons in that popular area (which could be used during the August rally) know so they do NOT end up with these "chicken shit" citations.

I wonder how well those cameras work in the absents of a front license plate. I see the front plate enforcement going up too with the rollout of these camera ticketing systems.

fjpikul,

It's strange that this goverment funded group, that no one has ever heard of, suddenly surprised us with these money making scandals for our bankrupt state. If our previous state governor Grey Davis wouldn't of driven our state into bankruptcy, this police state crap would of probably been delayed for several years. :mad

You're right on all counts. This state is becoming less business -- AND LESS RESPONSIBLE-ADULT -- friendly every month. California built up a hell of momentum because of its climate and initial strengths (entertainment industry, excellent public schools, superb freeway system, etc.). But each of those items, and plenty more, have been going downhill for at least 30 years. Even the longstanding production/entertainment companies have stopped using California to produce films/TV because of the littany of games they must play (and "fees" they must pay) before the cameras are allowed to roll.

I see people "cashing out" of this state everyday. In the past six months I've had two neighbors within 60 yards of my house sell and move to Austin, which I find ironic because I've been seriously looking into that city for about 15 years (and I moved hear 13 years ago, so it easily could have gone the other way...). At some point the traffic, pollution, population demographics, school system, politics and police-state antics will drive me out. The trick is to get out while the gettin's good.

These fee-based cameras (along with fee-based policies like "Operation Safe Canyons") are convincing me that time is getting short...

Yes,

A close friend of mine and his wife have packed it up and are moving back east in two weeks. Mostly for the reasons you have mentioned. I am slowly losing my patience here. I have lived hear about 42 years and my little town is being overbuilt and approaching saturation. I am going to visit north Nevada for a few days and check out some other states when time permits.

When will it ever end?

Interesting, I got three tickets a couple of years ago in the mail from the wonderful city of Paradise, Arizona. One a day for three days. I decided to ignore them and never return with the offending vehicle. And, by the way for the record, a valet must have been driving since I never violate the laws of man or nature.

We had red light cameras here in Fresno, they didn't work, and the vendor had to remove them after a year or two.

When the last person leaves California, would you please turn off the lights?

The upside in Texas is the violations issued via this method are not considered moving violations (because they can't prove who is driving).

It does seem sad that our government reps don't see this as the beginning of a "Big Brother" system.

Technology marches on.

If I remember correctly, Lockheed Martin was contracted to build and maintain the Photo Cop Cameras in California. There was a challenge (and an alleged embarassing discovery) that a portion of the royalties went back to Lockheed Martin. Subsequently, all the cameras installed by LMC were removed.

At least in Texas Fubar our legislature put a stop to the speed camera's..they don't do much right but they did do that.

The article I red was for a STOP SIGN camera..good lord this is out of control..these cities need revenue like I need a hole in the head..STOP SPENDING THE MONEY ON CRAP.

The problem we have is that everyone wants wants wants..give me give me give me and these stupid people think that if we just provide it for them everyone will be happy..NO they will be fat, stupid and bitching because those of us that work have more than them..I'm waiting for the pendulum to swing the other way..this PC, give freebies, let everyone be a citizen crap is getting old really quick.

Ok I'm leaving now my soapbox is starting to rise up a little.

Don't ever worry about being on that soapbox. I think it's the silent majority's lack of regularly shouting these sorts of common sense beliefs that makes the B.S. policies easier for politicians to support/pass.

Shout it from the rooftops!
