I figure some of my GT forum friends must have and know about some great simulators .Here's what has been recommended .
Open to ideas and opinions.
The photos attached show two units that I actually manufacturer. Its the same basic design as the Vision Racer but its one piece of welded aluminum (as the Vision Racer is two pieces held together with plastic connectors). So its a more stable platform and it also eliminates the bar that goes between your legs. It will also accept a standard floor mounted Sparco seat (as you can see in the pictures). The black unit has the monitors attached directly to the unit (typically used when the client will not have motions), the silver unit has a separate monitor mount, used with motion as you don't want the monitors to move with the unit.
For wheel....
Fanatec Club Sport Wheel: This is a new wheel, I would rate it slightly higher than the Thrustmaster, its also a bit more money. The wheel base is $450 http://us.fanatec.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=262
Now you need a rim, the best option for you would be the GT rim (BMW branded) $250 http://us.fanatec.com/RacingWheels?product_id=267
To take another step up, custom pedals by Cannon Simulator Technology are AMAZING! These start around $600 but go up to $1,000 with stiff brake upgrades, etc. http://www.cannonsimulationtechnologies.com/user/cimage/CST-3B.JPG
To use the Cannon pedals you would have to have the chassis that I make, they do not fit in the Vision Racer.
Other things to consider:
1) PC - I have a custom builder located in Stamford CT that makes a great unit, they run $1,700 to $2,000 (with three year warranty)
2) Audio - Typically a sub $100 sound system does the job
3) then all the little things, keyboards, cables, internet connection, etc.
If we go with your projection screen that will change costs slightly (don't need the monitor mount or screens) Same goes for your seat if the mounting holes work. As anyone used there projector and screen?
Software - iRacing is the only way to go. We include a one year free membership that includes the monthly fee (typically its $100 a year). That includes a base package of I think 5 cars and 7 tracks (mix of road/oval) Additional cars and tracks are a one time license fee of anywhere from $11 to $14. check out www.iracing.comfor more info.
My recommendation would be for you to go with an all inclusive set up with triple screens. I would suggest something like the silver unit because of the better pedals, though I do like the new Club Sport V2 (and they are a bunch cheaper). I would also say the best bet is to go with the separate monitor mount, that way in the future we can easily upgrade to motion. This way you wouldn't have to move the unit every time you wanted to use it.
I am going to go with 27inch flat screens instead of the 24
