This is a really great site! I'm now a owner of a 06 yellow w/black stripe Ford GT. I'm a past Viper owner and never thought I would see this day! I would like to know some basic facts for when I'm showing off the car, any help would be great IE: Im told part of the car is aluminum?
Thanks!

sorry I can't help myself but if by part you mean the doors, basic body, clamshell, fenders, and frame? then yea part is aluminum :) Most of the body panels are hydroformed aluminum and then some received carbon on top of that...ie clamshell I think is both..don't know about the front hood...I believe its all carbon

Welcome to the club. If you go back and search through old posts in the tech section you can find a wealth of knowledge about the cars and you won't ever look back.

Front hood is fiberglass.....

Welcome Scooter.

Welcome Scooter to the most amazing owner's club on the planet.
Sounds like you are in for alot of download on Ford GT facts.
This site can set you free if you spend some quality time reviewing the threads regarding the evolution, development and construction of this incredible vehicle. :thumbsup

I thought all the body panels were made of fiberglass, are there any made of CF. Does the car have any OEM CF parts (not counting Kip's OEM looking ones of course)?

The only fiberglass part on the car is the front trunk hood. Everything else is monolayer carbon fiber. The center tunnel is a magnesium composite. All the coverings inside are leather.

I though the hood was carbon as well...or overlay? I know the clamshell is aluminum with Carbon overlay on the inside but its one that doesn't show the weave...thats why if you get a look at a CP car they have a weave inside the clamshell.

If you sign up and attend the Rally IV in October, Austin, Tx, you'll lean more about these cars than you ever thought you would from chatting on any forum...plus, a bonus...you get to meet all of us great guys (and girls!). And maybe buy us a drink or two.

My front boot lid is fiberglass, maybe me and Shelby got the cheap ones. You can buy Kips CF front hood if you like.

Here are some details about the aluminum in the GT

here is a fun piece of trivia, your Brembo Brakes came directly off of the Aston Martin assemble line (Ford owned AM at the time).

Ask the Aggie about the billet a-arms.

The internals of your motor and transmission (not including the clutch) are good up to 1200 rwhp... then the stock fuel supply becomes an issues. I think people have gotten 1500+ rwhp out of the motor without changing much else.

watch your head when you get out!:wink

The seat shells are CF as well.

Yep, a lot of technical information in past posts to review and retain. Hopefully Scooter will be spending some time reviewing many many previous technical topics.

Welcome to our club!

Kip doesn't have a CF hood (Trunk)
Stormcat has sold several of them including Bony's!!!:thumbsup

The steering rack is Aston too - from the Vanquish I believe.

To add to what Soroush said:

Don't slam the engine clam shell and always close it by pushing lightly down from the middle of the clam shell where the brake light is located or you'll twist and damage the thin aluminum clam shell.

There are two (2) latches on your clam shell, one on each side. Open the drivers side and lift slightly and then fully open from the passenger's side. I've seen folks twist the clam shell trying to open the clam shell after releasing only one of the latches.

If your speedometer and gauges stop working, it's because your battery charge is low. So, you need to drive it some and then turn it off and restart it and the speedo will magically start working again. Keep your battery charged with a "Battery Maintainer" or drive it at least once a month.

Make sure the transaxle bolts have been replaced.

Buy one of the books centerpunch recommended and read them. Read your owners manual 2 or 3 times. :-)

Thanks for all the great information! Was there some sort of recall on the transaxle bolts? Also I need another set of keys made will I need to bring the car to Ford or can I just give them the Vin Code and my original key?

If you have the two original keys then you can program a new one. If you only have one key then you will have to have a dealer setup the additional key.
