Radarlover

wonkawonka said:
Well I have a problem with that. 2 weeks ago I was at Willow Springs with EnzoBTR and his crew. They had a radar. At the end of the straight before turn 1 I looked at my speedo and hit 138 mph (a hairline below the 140 tick mark).
The radar was positioned almost straight behind me and clocked me at 130 mph.

Either the radar is undercalculating or the speedo is optimistic.

Wonka,

they need to take some miles off the measured result as margin of error to your benefit, so results in a discount... Don't worry, be happy ! :thumbsup
PS: I start to believe 1 of 19 re the reliability of the speedometer, as I then read the article he refered to and those AMS boys take their stuff seriously..

Hello, I'm just coming back from a 15min trip and I
realized some options the GT doesn´t have:
1)outside temperature (this night is the first below 0° Celsius)
2)heated seat (seats have been really cold)
3)monitor for tire pressure
Any idea or experience how to install it now?

1)outside temperature (this night is the first below 0° Celsius)
If you see snow on the road, and other cars are sliding around... Better keep it under 300 Km/h

2)heated seat (seats have been really cold)
Try wearing and pair of track suit pants + your jeans (should help a litte)

3)monitor for tire pressure
If people are pointing at your wheel when you're passing them at 280 Km/h, then I would pull in at the next service station, just to take a look.
A good tip is also to drive really slow past big shop windows, to check yourself in the mirror... (as a bonus this trick will also boost you self confidence)

101, you are such a prick, :lol :lol :lol

i'm sure some of those options would be useful, but i don't plan i driving mine when the weather and roads could cause me or my car damage
i am however having a rear view camera put in sometime next week
the monitar will be in the rear view mirror, and the camera will be mounted on a cross bar looking out through the engine hatch window
very hard to see out the back of the car, this should help (not to mention, hopefully will see police cars in back of me--hehehehe)

sam when installed please post a picture. thanks.

will do partner
as a matter of fact, i had the tech here at the house today, to look it over before he orders the parts
my concern was about the heat factor, because i plan on installing it in the engine compartment, pointing out the hatch window !!!
he is calling the manufacturer 2morrow to get some answers
the other question i had was, about the glare if it is mounted in that area ?
with the heat near the outside exhaust, there is no place to mount it on the outside of the vehicle, that is why i'm thinking in the engine compartment.
he did bring a new inside rear view mirror with the monitor in the mirror, but it took up half the windshield, so if i do get the system, i will be installing a 3" monitor screen just above the right knee on the dash
i'll keep you all advised

Sam, I've come to this late... I have a Range Rover which has a very neat wide angle reverse camera mounted on the outside.... So open to the elements - works great. Given it's got a very good wide angle view (a bit like the button lenses on a hotel room door, if you see what I mean) I was wondering if you could mount a similar camera just within the venturi tunnels or centrally between them?

It would give you a good view from down there and I think should be almost completely hidden. And it could be bolted very firmly to the Venturi.

Just a thought.... N

As you said, I'd be VERY worried about the heat in the engine compartment. I'm very interested in seeing how this will develop, from an engineering perspective. There is no easy obvious solution.

1of101: I'm with you, man!
External Temp? What for?!?!? Drive the car harder, it'll warm you up.
Heated seats? See above.
Monitor for tire pressure? What next? A slutty chick voice telling you to slow down from the big Nav screen? Hey, I know! Bluetooth! So you can broadcast to the outside with your BT name being "The GT next to you, sucka!"

:biggrin

good suggestions from everyone
if it can be done and done to my standards, i'll let everyone know
my main objective is to not take away from the beauty of this vehicle

sh++ ! I tried four times to post you, with pics from a recent MC12 install we did and it won't go for whatever reason.... I might abandon this site,i=f that crap ain't fixed. I like charity, bit not posting elaborated posts to then see them being jammed..

Sorry guys, I thought this site was fun, but I am losing the desire to waste my time...

I think you might be making a big mistake, mounting the camera in the engine room (not only for heat..), as you will be looking at panorama shots backwards... (who needs these, Indians never look back) rather than get the required navigation help you are looking for..
Do rather as follows> mount as back on the car as possible, and fairly low... That way you will actually see obstacles when going backwards, instead of watching police cars in widescreen (Who cares anyhow, have your checkbook with you, that'll do, plus a nice story about yourself, they might go for an autograph and some petty cash for their wives.. (so far worked everytime))

look at what the Maserati MC 12 install attached is about, same issue as with the GT (my friend's car. same back view issue as we have). We decided here for a very nice hidden install above the license plate, - if you want it, it is also possible to mount the camera in the middle (!) of the license plate mount , to not ruin the aesthetics at all... and you will see like a God parking backwards! And, put in also some bumper PDC's, if you want to keep the bumper on that is.

I recently at a night ride on a parking shaved and scratched the diffusor, painful experience.. the back camera makes sense, but put it in the rightr spot !

thx for the input slf
i desperatly want to mount it in the license plate area, or there abouts
i was told and i read someplace that the license plate area is one of the hottest areas on the vehicle
if you use a plastic license plate bracket, it will melt within 10 miles
mounting a camera eye anyplace near the license plate will be a melt down in a matter of minutes !!
that is why my only option is in the engine compartment (at this point)
i'm still looking at all the possibilites
the tech will be bringing me 4 different camera eyes on monday, once i have them, i will hopefully figure something out
sorry about the difuser, thank goodness they are painted with flat black--lol
don't give up the ship with this wonderful site, all things will work out
i appreciate your help and i wish you well

Stefan, have you ever touched your license plate after a hard run, I did and let me advise you it is really hot. I have seen the cameras that mount on the plate and I wonder if they will take the heat we are generating there?

I am also interested in what type of sano install can be done in the cockpit. I don't want to have the interior look like a ricer with screens everywhere. I am watching this thread and welcome thoughts.

camera install pictures

I hope now they go !@!

cheers, boys :cheers

Stefan,
That is the camera I had in mind, is it holding up to the heat? However, the monitor is not my cup of tea, looks like it belongs in a bloody MAZDA. I recall seeing one that actually is part of the rear view mirror. Will check into it, have a trade rag called AUTO ELECTRONICS.
Cheers,
daniel

Daniel,
I agree fully with your Mazda judgement inside... :lol I am very interested to get some link to a camera monitor in the mirror, very elegant install, and unknown to us here so far...
The best camera position, -as the GT is a very sweaty car anyhow-, could be nicely mounted in the bumper ! With few PDC's around it'll look cool - and stay cool aswell! Think about it, boys...

I'm with you on that. Bumper is probably the only way to go. I think I posted somewhere on the site a picture where you could see the license plate holder and fake dealer plate completely warped by the heat after a canyon run.

So imho, absolutely nothing in the engine compartment or license plate area. The bumper on the other hand looks like the perfect place. It's far enough from the car that heat diffuses enough before it gets to it.

My metal licence-plate also got damaged by the heat

Here is a source for a monitor that goes into the sun visor http://bravoview.com/

There are all kinds of companies offering a camera in a license plate frame, but the picture from Germany above ends any serious discussion from my stand point.
