Noisy Vibration at 1900 RPM

Before I take my gal into the local dealership (:ack), I was hoping somebody might have a simple answer.

Lately I've noticed the GT is making a resonating noise between 1900-2400 rpm. I have the FRPP Borla muffler, but it doesn't sound like a classic exhaust drone. It sounds more mechanical, almost like the timing chains aren't tensioned correctly and are rubbing on something.

Any thoughts before I let the local techs take a look? Any help would be appreciated.

Best Regards,
Waldo

Mine just started a strange noise about the same RPM in first and second gear...sound like loose change shaking in a coffee can?? There were some old posts that talked about a " rattlesnake noise" ???? I am searching,,,,,

Kosupply has nailed it, I think. SOMEWHERE there's a thread wherein it was mentioned that there was a cable in the engine compartment that was vibrating against something somewhere. I'd start by popping the clamshell and tracing cable lengths.

Rubbin' against the belt or pulley I think.

RIGHT! It was the belt as I recall.

KO is right. Look for the rattlesnake nosie of the loose line behind the passenger seat in the engine compartment. Easy fix.

I will check that....sounds like it is coming from the front of the car though...

here's the thread. If the belt is rubbing on the throttle cable, then would that transfer the sound to what would seem to be the front of the car? I have no experience with this but am only guessing.

Logically, one would think it could, but, I seem to remember THAT situation has been linked to the shifter cables rattling against something in the console. Again (and I hate to say this), on a ANOTHER thread there are posts dealing with that situation/noise location. But, the throttle cable "rattle" (as covered above) was found to be the 'cable/belt contact in the engine compartment.

I checked the throttle cable. It looks like it is routed correctly and is not touching the belt.

I did happen to notice that the rear bolt was missing from the driver's side exhaust manifold heat shield. I could easily see how "my" vibrating noise could come from the heat shield vibrating against the exhaust manifold. I'll let you know if it's gone after I take it for a spin.

Thanks for the advice.
