This is a great opportunity. IR is a good training ground for mid-level managers and in 20 plus years following companies as a Wall Street analyst I have seen many former IR managers reach the C-suite . IR gives them an independent view of how outsiders view the company which often results in a more skeptical mindset as to whether the company's strategy and execution will create long-term shareholder value. For someone whose last name is on the building it also gives them the chance to establish credibility with investors and show that they are being promoted on merit not bloodline.
