I came across an ad in Autoweek for blendmount.com, a new type of radar detector mount that goes just below your mirror. They make them for both Escorts and Valentines. I just ordered one so we'll see and I'll put up a post with pics. FYI, if you decide to order, use me as the contact and you get 10% off. Also FYI, use the coupon code "friend" and get another 12% off.

Thanks for the link Doc...

Right now I have the VI above the mirror suction cupped to the windshield... Problem I see if I was to mount the V1 above the mirror - the unit would be upside down as the blendmount looks like it clips across the top of the radar detector....

I have a Blendmount for my Bel detectors in the GT, my pickup and the wife's MKT. They are well made, adjust easily and look good. Very happy with the purchase. The plug in wiring harness they build works fine in the gt as well, gets power from the dome light circuit.

Country Joy Crafts also makes an under mirror mount which uses a different adjustment method. In either case a cable like the Invisicord to power pull power from the mirror makes for a clean installation.

I purchased 2 of theirs some time ago. It works fine on my Caddy, but not so much on the GT.

Mine works great. Do you have an aftermarket mirror?

Dr. Frank. How is this mount working out for you? Was about to place an order and decided to do a search on the forum for any experiences with it. Any issues? Does that referral discount still work? Thanks.

Hey, those mounts have been around for years & if you do a search on this forum you will find many threads on radar detector mounts. I use them for my Raptor & Ford van.

I like the above mirror area for my V1 in the GT though. Not so noticeable as hanging below the mirror in the middle of the windscreen. Much cleaner.

PS Here is the photo I have posted like 12 times! It's wired into the back of the mirror.

The mount is great. I have mine mounted below the mirror. You can see it in 3 weks in person. My only complaint so far is that the small hex bolts may work loose and you have to carry the allen wrench to tighten them up. No more suction cups. I felt there was not enough room above the mirror due to the shading and radio antenna.

I have the same configuration as Frank, but apparently more adept at tightening the set screws, as I have not had any problems!!

Thanks Ed. But my question was specifically about this one, not mounts in general. I've seen them all. I'm generally not a big proponent of mounts that place the unit low(er) on the windshield. But I came back to the GT one day after it was sitting in the sun for a bit to find the unit sitting in the driver's footwell. Alarming to say the least, thinking about the path it took down to the floor, possibly dinging the Mg console:eek
I'm through with suction cups.

Thanks Doc. Did you think about using some Loctite?
Guess I'll pick one up and see how it works. BTW, cheapest I could find it was on eBay. I believe $79.99 with shipping. Even with discounts on the Blendmount site, it still came out to $92.xx (stupid CA sales tax!!!).

Correction: for those interested, the cheapest I could find was Amazon. $79.99 + stupid CA sales tax, free shipping. I'll make Dr. Frank buy me a drink at R8 if this thing turns out to be a dud.

Please disregard Tachy's comments. Elliot, you have to drive your car to count. Just sitting in the garage with a mount in it (no detector) doesn't count. Going Vroom, vroom and splattering your windshield on the inside with saliva does not count. I did not use loctite as I may want to remove it someday or adjust for a different detector. It is in a delicate spot overhanging the console. I don't have to pay CA tax.

I like this clean look. How difficult is it to wire the V-1 to the mirror?

Cool, any chance of describing it, so I'll give it a go? Thx

The mirror cord from Blendmount has a built in hidden fuse and two metal prong that insert into the slots on the mirror harness.
Requires no modifications. I believe the red goes in the far passenger side and the ground in the far driver side slot on OEM mirror.I can post a pic in a few days. I ordered from Blendmount because they have both the mount and cord, other comparable products out there
