Well... for the first time since my GT was lowered, I tried to use my low profile race flloor jack to raise the front of the car to swap out my wheels/tires. The jack didn't fit under the car. Does anyone know of a real low profile floor jack? Maybe I will have to drive up on some blocks first then jack it up?

Yes, the easiest way would be to drive up on a couple pieces of wood. Sounds a bit weird, but its effective. We have a very low profile jack at the shop as well, sometimes they just dont fit under the cars. We use wood. Problem solved. Cut a couple pieces, sometimes, depending upon how low your car is, you might need to stack more than one piece on top of each other. Just nail them together, and save them for when ever you need to jack up the car. Just make sure you always jack the car in the right spot by the way. I've seen people jack them in the wrong spot.

Good luck.

Jerry, found this from an earlier post last year about Low Profile jacks. Think Empty has one. This one should work!

BTW - Type "Shinn Fu Model 29023" in Google and you'll find for sale offers under O"meaga jack for ~$180"

If I have missed a discussion elsewhere on floor jacks for use with the GT, I apologize. If not, I have been researching the floor jack issue all over the Internet and have found only one jack to date which will fit comfortably and with lots of clearance under the GT, and will reach the angled 22 inches or so from the sides of the car to the front and rear lift point holes. I bought the jack and tried it out. It works GREAT, but you need the lifting pads sold by GTSaver, or some other type of elevated and properly sized pad to be safe (and to have clearance to remove belly pans). I made my own temporary pads. It weighs about 116 pounds, so is a bit to handle. I contacted a number of jack servicing operations, and the unit is serviceable/rebuildable if you have troubles after warranty. Buy it with your credit card and you'll usually get the warranty doubled. It is not US made, but I figured it was worth a try. If it holds up, it is a great deal for this car.

Pricing: $344.00 List; I paid $197.00 (picked up locally in Minneapolis, Delegard Tools) from ToolDesk.com. The local O'Reilly store wanted $248.00; Others varied. The distributor of ATD Tools wanted $230.00 including freight.

I spoke with the folks at the Troy assembly plant, and they said they used the Sears Craftsman aluminum low profile racing jack for tire changes, etc., but I'll be darned if I can figure where they lifted them (except one spot behind the front wheel on the pan, and possibly just forward of the rear edge of the door, again on the pan). The jack will not reach under the car to the inboard front and rear frame holes.

AC Hydraulics (Denmark) also makes one (DK13HLQ) that might work, but it appears to have a 5.5 Inch height at the 22 Inch mark. To clear the outside edge of the GT it needs to be less than about 4.8 Inches. So, I am not sure this jack will fit comfortably. The jack is also more than 2.5 times the ATD price. If someone has one, let us know if it fits.

Any other recommendations would be appreciated, I am sure.

I have one and it does not work. I usually use ramps to get the car up then use the jack either the AC hydraulics or a Sears Craftsman 2 ton aluminium jack.

Ditto what mase said. Both my Gts are lowered and it takes some wood to get it to work.

I have the low profile jack from Griot's Garage. Embarrassingly overpriced, but a nice piece. After the GT, it's the second nicest piece in my garage. :)
I haven't tried it on the GT yet - bought it for a different car, but I'm certain it clears.
If you're interested, I'll test it to be sure.

That's what she said. :biggrin

I think he meant it takes some work to get it to wood :eek

I just tried something and it worked great. I have a few of the hard rubber tire stops that you drive up on and then stop when you hit the bumper. I flipped one upside down on top of the other to make the bumper stop section 2 deep. I then drove the car up onto the top and was able to fit my lowprofile jack into the proper jacking point.

I have this jack and my GT is lowered. It works perrfectly. I even added a little black "Gorilla" tape to the wheels to keep it from scratching my floor and it still gets all the way under the car with Jay's (analogdesigner) jack pad on it.

FYI, Griots won't work because it won't reach far enough under the car to the rear lifting point.
