Mid-Winter Drive in the GT

With very little snow in the Sierra Nevada Mountains this winter I decided to take advantage of, hopefully, dry roads & blast around the high altitude (6000 ft +) twisties. I'm usually limited to the valley & coast in the winter but this is the first winter I can remember where the only snow in the Sierras is man-made. Since I am in NorCal I knew everyone, but me, would be sitting on their couches watching the SF 49ers play the Saints. And I was right as the roads were wide open. I have realized that the CHP are not NFL fans as I counted 11 of them on my 230 mile trip! I met a Ferrari owner doing the same thing as me in his California when I stopped at the Squaw Valley Village for coffee. Car guys are cool. Geez, I couldn't believe how tall the California is compared to the GT. I found a few areas of ice in the shadows near Lake Tahoe that had me sliding slightly but not too bad. Definitely my Hoosiers helped on the ice & cold road surfaces. There was a tiny bit of dirt on some of the icy sections but very little. Salt isn't used in California. Snow is predicted next week so now I'll have to wait until May. Of course it's 70 in the valley so I'm not complaining. It's even warmer in SoCal. If anyone wants to ship their GT out here we can do some California winter driving let me know!

I was out driving in mine yesterday but the route was no where near as scenic as yours.

When the Sierras are dry you know there is a problem. Snow is the worst I've seen in Colorado in 30 years.

Awesome. So jealous.

Without including the sound of that nasty thing the pictures are just okay I guess.

You've got it figured out Ed.

Cool Ed, Thanks for sharing,, I'm happy to see you're are out enjoying the roads in the GT ..:thumbsup

I looked at my Gt under the cover in my garage today!

Dear Special ED, KMA. I can't wait till you're here in the icy/snowy/freezing Midwest.

It'll be next month but I hoping for a warm spell when I get there.

Ed, you missed a great San Francisco Saints game, but it looks like it was worth it! This has been a great year for late season driving in Northern Cal. Mt Lassen and Shasta have little to no snow and the roads are almost cinder free. I have not even thought about covering the Gt yet. It looks like the weather maybe changing this coming week with some rain and snow predicted.

Yes, but as soon as the rain has passed I'll be on the PCH & valley roads (Skyline Blvd, Skaggs Springs Rd, etc).

Ed -

If the storm this weekend doesn't drop much snow, maybe we can get together for a Sierra ride. Weekdays are best for me.

I can do Jan 28-29. I'll be in AZ next weekend vintage mx racing. Chip's coming out to spectate. Maybe Team Jeff too.
