One of my favorite commercial airplanes.

Lockheed Super G Constellation CF-TGE
A 56 year Photographic Retrospective Journey

A gorgeous airplane! Our former pilot had hair raising tales of flying them for the military, called them the best tri-motor ever built.:eek

Id love to see it fly again!

It was a beautiful plane no doubt. If I remember correctly, there is an airworthy one at Camarillo Airport in CA.

A Connie is featured extensively early on in the movie "Voyager", with some interesting trick camera angles attempting make the crash scenes look somewhat convincing.

On the negative side for me personally, a couple of friends (the two pilots) were killed in the Connie sprayer that crashed at Falcon Field in Mesa, AZ on Mother's Day 1976.

On the positive side, I remember watching TWA Super-G's taxi up to the terminal in Columbus, Ohio in August 1960. Beautiful!! It was a bit of a strange juxtaposition though, because nearby were brand new Mach 2 RA-5 Vigilante's which were being built at North American's plant. Of course I didn't even have a camera with me! :ack

Here's an 049 at the Pima Air Museum in Tucson - TWA's "Star of Switzerland".

what a cool airplane. i had the pleasure of seeing one of these take off and fly one time at a airshow. the motors sound cool!

Sam: Thanks for the link. Always one of my favorite aircraft.

I dined aboard this Connie when it was in its stand alone location at the Toronto airport. Interesting experience - original seats (complete with seat belts!) and the meal was served as if you were 'in flight'.

I can certainly understand why the owners went bankrupt.

Good memory, I was given a tour of it back in 2004.
