Hello Forum,

After driving I noticed a very small amount of oil by a hose that connects to my drives side valve cover (see picture below). I thought it may be the bolt and when I tried to tighten it, the bolt would not tighten and I was able to pull it out by pulling straight up on it. The bolt had some metal in the threads, so I am not sure if the hole is stripped. I tightened the other bolt and it worked as it should.

Not sure what to do with lose bolt. Any suggestions? Is there a gasket that goes between the valve cover and the metal plate?

Thanks for all your help.

That plate and hose fitting that you have is not OEM and I suspect it was changed with the TT install. From your description, I believe the threads are now stripped. The OEM bolts that are used there are peculiar in the first place in that they employ more of a course sheetmetal thread than a standard machine thread. I would recommend that you disassemble this plate and see if there's an opportunity to repair it on the car - of course being extremely careful not to let any metal filings drop down into the valve cover. The safest remedy may be to remove the cover completely and repair/replace it as needed.

Still safe to drive??? Need to drive to shop and let them take a look. If they need to replace, I want a new one powder coated red.

Looks like a pretty simple fix, I would think a Heli-Coil would do the job.

Sure. The worst case is some weeping from this area but I don't suspsect that it would be much.
