Leaky Power Steering Pumps

2 of 3 GT's that I have worked on - or maybe literally 7 of 10 cars have had "weeping" power steering pumps. There's usually an accumulation of drops at the lower-most fittings. However, the pan usually doesn't show a puddle or anything like that - hence the description "weeping".

I have one such car on the lift right now. I suspect that the power steering pump is not inexpensive and to R&R it looks kind of time consuming as well. I have been consistently reluctant to recommend a Ford Dealership for warranty repairs simply out of concern of the well-being of the overall car. I'm just wondering if anyone knows or has ever heard of Ford picking up the replacement pump cost without having the car on their rack. I'm happy to supply pictures and, of course, the failed part upon replacement. Any ideas/comments other than the obvious, "take it to a dealership"?

I think MAD in NC had the first reported. Several have been replaced under warranty.

Yep - happened after about five months......

Mine has the 'weep'. I have a small stain on the belly pan after 10k miles. Tasca Ford in RI said they would replace it under warranty and said that nearly every car they have seen has the same issue. The had replaced a few others under warranty.

I might have them do mine this fall.

mine was replaced last summer during my 1/2 shaft service.

Where is the pump located? Where do you look for weepage?

Passsenger side ~ center front of engine on belly pan is where the fluid was seen......

You have to pull the belly pans off to get a look at the pump.

Is the pump GT special or just a normal 4.6 /5.4 pump?.

Where do they leak/weap from?
Are the replacements leaking as well?

I believe standard 5.4 is what I was told... No leaks since replaced (keeping fingers crossed)
