I think I totaled my GT! Safety Reminder, HELP! w/ insurance, salvage, new GT,repair?

Gents, Thanks for taking the time to read this post! First, No one hurt. Second, I was, nor was my passenger, wearing safety belts! I disabled the chime long ago, and that was foolish.....NEVER am I NOT going to wear a safety belt again in any vehicle. Bruised up some as a result.

I spun the car on the coldest day of the year thus far in Dallas. Cold tires, and the stock non sticky ones at that, cold pavement, and too much throttle and it was gone in an instant. COOLER WEATHER HERE NOW BE CAREFUL!! BONE stock car. No other car involved, but I sheared a big aluminum traffic pole, came to a stop, and the pole fell on the car. PROBABLY totaled. Will post pics when the car gets back to the body shop Monday. THIS IS A COMMON RISK FACTOR WITH THIS CAR! I was warned by members of this site upon purchase to be careful, and for two years I did, and it was gone in an instant. Please be careful, and smarter than I have been. Alcohol was NOT a factor.

AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY! it was mostly a side impact, and that may be why.

The car was 2006, Black 3000 miles, optional wheels, no stripes no mac. I may want another 2006 black stripe delete car. I have seen one, but it was sale pending......Want a stock, non modified car.

Holy crap... I did almost the exact same thing last year (see link above). I know your pain. Well actually my pain was a bit worse but I broke a few bones. Anyhow if you need any help with getting good money from your insurance company or other post-wreck questions... give me a call 214.549.8181

There seems to be a bad trend with Black FGTs, Dallas and cold tires! Frank keeps saying how the red cars are faster, maybe, but it seems that the black cars have more torque.

I wish you the best of luck in getting another FGT or your current one repaired.

First and foremost, to echo all the other members who have posted, the important thing is that you and your passenger are well.

I am fortunate enough to have very good weather where I live, but I always look at the temp after reading other posts about the grip problems in cold weather. I actually skipped our local C&C this week because it was in the high forties when I wanted to leave. I waited till later and went for a drive in the afternoon in the high sixties.

Good luck with your car. If it can't be fixed I hope you find exactly what you are looking for. :cheers

Same here... Sat morning ~ 9:00A temp was 30F....

Wasn't worth the chance as the Whipple LOVES the colder dense air - but the tires unless hot are like "steel".

Next month will be better as this crap from the North will soon leave!

griffbl - look forward to a post soon that put's you back in as quick as Fubar was!

Sounds like God got your attention on a few points.
We are all glad you and your pass are Ok.

Now with your new found respect for GT power and a great Forum I think those members here can help you with your ....claim...... a new car...... and insurance. :thumbsup

Don't let Doc fix your bruises......you come away missing a few body parts......not a good idea:rofl

It might be worth your while to fly in the "GT Guys" to assess the car's damage BEFORE you sign off with the insurance company or have the car repaired elsewhere. I sure would if I were in your shoes with the best looking FGT colored-car! Always best to have a "Professional" diagnosis!
As a black/no stripe owner, I know these desirable cars are becoming MUCH rarer!
Please be careful with your NEXT car and good luck in your search!

Damn that got my attention. What happened to you could have happened to any of us especially in areas of big daily temp swings. Its also why virtually all Texas tracks close for the winter. Power, temp and traction.

Unfortunately you have reminded us all and I for one needed the reminder especially for this off the chart supercar.

Since you're grounded for the winter, hop on SWA and come to Midland. We can pester Ray, go look at the Chapparral cars, or go deer hunting and lift a toast to your yet to be located new car.

Take a break, the invitation is open and I'm glad no one was injured. Pop me a PM if interested.

Sorry to hear about your GT, but glad you are OK. I had mine out several times this weekend, and 1st and 2nd gear were very squirrelly in the cold.

I ordered Bridgestones from Tire Rack, and RUF is mounting them today. Hope it helps.

BLACK NO STRIPE--The worst combo--

The car was 2006, Black 3000 miles, optional wheels, no stripes no mac. I may want another 2006 black stripe delete car. I have seen one, but it was sale pending......Want a stock, non modified car.

That color combo has to be the worst, I,d go maybe a Hot Red.....E-Bay
has quit a few listing running now. Good Luck...... BillyRay

Just caught this thread and thank God you guys are OK! As everyone has said as much as it hurts to see your baby that way there are more out there. Be patient and you will find exactly what you want!

Who would have thought Shelby would find a 2 mile Solid Black car??? not me :willy :biggrin

What a testament to the quality and design of these cars to walk away from some of the wrecks we have seen these things get into. Thank you FORD once again!

Anyway, as Donnymac said, invitation is open to head West... we will find some trouble to get into :biggrin

Sorry griffbl about your lost, the Black cars solid are hard to find. I do have 2 - 2006 2K miles car but both of the cars are striped one is side stripe delete. If I run across one I will send you a pm. Good Luck in your search and again glad no one was hurt.
If I can help locate one let me know.
