Car Totaled..Now Time to Settle w/INS. Safety Reminder, HELP

Gents, Thanks for taking the time to read this post! First, No one hurt. Second, I was, nor was my passenger, wearing safety belts! I disabled the chime long ago, and that was foolish.....NEVER am I NOT going to wear a safety belt again in any vehicle. Bruised up some as a result.

I spun the car on the coldest day of the year thus far in Dallas. Cold tires, and the stock non sticky ones at that, cold pavement, and too much throttle and it was gone in an instant. COOLER WEATHER HERE NOW BE CAREFUL!! BONE stock car. No other car involved, but I sheared a big aluminum traffic pole, came to a stop, and the pole fell on the car. PROBABLY totaled. Will post pics when the car gets back to the body shop Monday. THIS IS A COMMON RISK FACTOR WITH THIS CAR! I was warned by members of this site upon purchase to be careful, and for two years I did, and it was gone in an instant. Please be careful, and smarter than I have been. Alcohol was NOT a factor.

UPDATE: Car Was TOTALED OUT by the Adjustor....Now need to settle and work on a replacement!! (BLACK, (preferably) 2006, NO STRIPES)

AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY! it was mostly a side impact, and that may be why.

The car was 2006, Black 3000 miles, optional wheels, no stripes no mac. I may want another 2006 black stripe delete car. I have seen one, but it was sale pending......Want a stock, non modified car.

A real Bad Day

That's big ouch!

Glad to hear no harm to you or your passenger.

No need to sermon-ise not using seatbealts. But .....always use 'em!

Called Bernie or Shelby yet?

One of the forum members is looking for a drivers side headlight.

Soooooo glad to here no one was hurt and Soooooo sorry about this incident. She can definitely be replaced. Keep your head up and you know what I was going to say about those belts.:thumbsup

I did call Shelby....he had a black low miles car, but it was a pending sale....thanks Jeff!

Glad you are okay. If you need help here in CA locating one let us know.

Ouch, so sorry to hear this, but glad that you and your passenger are alright. Keep hoping for (but don't be expecting) second chances when you get your new car!!

thanks HHGT, WILL DO!

Glad you are okay. If you need help here in CA locating one let us know.

Thanks mucho! You CA boys seem to know where the cars can be found!

Sad to Hear

griffbl, sorry to hear about that!

Wow, these Texas GT's seem to have some sort magnetic attraction for light poles....

Glad everyone is OK and just another tribute to the crashworthiness of our cars (even sans seat belts)!

Before I would write the car off as a "total" I would get in touch with Rich and Dennis (the GT Guys) for their opinion. The typical aluminum light pole is designed to have a shear failure mode from being hit if a car runs into it. Rich and Dennis have repaired a number of GT's which looked irrepairable. Worth a call at the least. And if they do launch on a repair, it will be as good as new when they are finished....

:eek:eek:eek YIKES!!! THAT'S NOT GOOD!!!!!:eek:eek:eek

'But good to know you both are alright!!!!!!!!!!!

I think only FUBAR has had what can be sorta considered a major(?) injury in one of these situations. 'BIG endorsement for the safety built into these cars.

Yes we talked. Keep in mind, the 2 mile car is currently PENDING, but we do have the 3k mile black no stripe available....
As I told you when we talked the other day, you were not hurt which is the most important thing. Best of luck with the insurance company and let me know if I can be of any help.

Sorry to hear.

Glad you are well.

What were ambient temps, am/pm, sunshine, etc.

also... I agree with INDY, hope your baby can be brought back to as good as new.

First of all, I want to let you know that I am VERY glad to hear that both you and your passenger are OK, other those few bruises.

Once again the Good Lord was watching out for one our own.

These machines can be quite unforgiving; but they are built VERY VERY WELL thanks to all of those truly dedicated people who brought these special machines into existence for us fortunate few to enjoy.

Believe me; I understand your sense of loss.

Please do contact Rich & Denis of the GT Guy; they can work “magic” on these extraordinary machines.

As Tomy Hamon says, “We Texans are tough”.

Let me know if I can help in any way.

All will be well.

Fred

Sorry to hear.

Glad you are well.

What were ambient temps, am/pm, sunshine, etc.

Kayvan-

Temps 36 degrees or so, midnightish in time, near an intersection that probably has some oil residue, as their is a fairly busy traffic stop there....

thanks,

Griffbl

Sorry to hear about your car. Mine was on the wrong end of a falling tree limb last year and was brought back by Dennis and Rich as fortunately it was a straight forward job. Defintely contact them and send them detailed pictures from all angles and close ups as well. Include any pics of the interior that you my think is damaged. They will guide you on this and should be able to give you an idea of cost, unless the ins. company has already written it off. Good luck, glad most of all that everyone got out of it in one piece.
Stu

Really sorry to hear about your car - and pleased to hear you and your passenger are OK.

A good reminder to us all to go easy on the go pedal....

Let us know when you're back on the road. :cheers

sorry about the car, but it can be replaced, glad you guys are ok,

As the others have said, sorry for your loss. The only thing easing the pain is the fact that nothing more serious than a few bruises came to the people involved.

Another factor contributing is the added horsepower at those low temps. All that supercooled denser air giving the supercharger an extra boost to break loose those cold tires on cold pavement just when you don't need it.

Had mine into the dealer for some warrantee work a week ago, the trip home was clear and dry, 20 F, and the engine was noticibly more spirited. No problems but you sure want to be paying attention.
