everetto said:It is primarily for ease of swapping pulleys, but also has a "vented" pulley bolt (relieves internal pressure/turbulence at high rpm/pressure). My KB setup arrived today, so I am going to find out what it can do. I am VERY impressed with the drive unit, the hardware and the tune software that came with it. I will be putting the tune on the stock car tomorrow just to see what it does (only one change at a time is the golden rule), and then my winter project will be to pull the blower and install the drive. I have 5 pulleys to choose from; 3", 2 7/8", 2 3/4", 2 5/8", 2 1/2" (stock is 3 1/4"). I am planning on going with the 2 7/8" or the 2 3/4" for now. I think a car with about 650 RWHP in a very mellow state of tune should be pretty cool (although I wish this car had more "cam" - it is a bit lame for my taste, even at high boost levels).
Hi Bill - you are correct, the first thing I did was sit down and read everything that came with the kit (the blower drive and power steering spacer installation, and the tune instructions). The instructions are pretty good, and so far I don't really have any unanswered questions. I will be putting on the tune today, and will report back on how that goes. I plan on driving it that way for a week or two just to get to know it, before I remove the blower for the front drive installation. By the way, if you are in the mile high city, then we are at similar altitude, so hopefully my "tune" comprehended that (I made sure to mention my altitude to Kenne Bell). A friend on this and another forum already has his KB kit in place, and he sure likes his, with some great dyno numbers. Will let you know how it goes.Bill Oxley said:Hi everetto, I'll be very interested on how your install on KB setup goes.
I'm assuming by now you've reviewed the "install" sheets in the kit. Are they well done?
I'm about to buy the KB kit myself. It's seems like a fairly straight forward install, but appears it will certainly take a few hours, or more.
Good luck!!
everetto said:Whoooo Hoooooo! The flash tune (that came with the KB HCD kit) is on the car. Only one test drive so far, but I like it. Response, both full throttle and part throttle seems quite a bit better. It rev'd to 6500 "very quickly" I must say. But perhaps the thing I noticed (and liked) the most, is that at the end of the drive with the engine at full temp, while pulling into the shop, I could hear the fans running! This with the temp gauge at 180. Additionally, the temp stayed just below 180 for the entire drive - most of the drive was at speeds above 35, i.e., speeds at which the engine temp is not usually a problem, but we all know that as soon as you hit a light, or idle while pulling into the garage that the temp goes up pretty quickly. Well, the temp did not go up and the fans were on as I pulled into the garage (similar to turning on the AC as you pull in the garage to reduce the temp). In summary, the car ran great, and cooler. I am pretty sure the KB tune provides for more timing than the stock conservative tune - not sure how much they played with A/F ratio, but the car idled great, did not get hot, and no rattle or detonation. I am guessing that even this flash tune is a little conservative so there are no issues. So far so good - don't know if I can wait one or two weeks before pulling the blower off for the drive and pulley install.

Just kidding about the NOS, wanted to see if you guys are paying attention... :lol

Dark blue is the HP curve of the Whipple(light blue the TQ), Dark Purple is the 2.7 HP curve (light blue the TQ). The power level of the Whipple surpasses the 2.7" at ~3600 rpm. You can follow the appropriate curves by following them to their intersection at 5250 RPMs.
