Besides VERY CAREFULLY :rofl

These are pictures from my Atlanta trip that I just got back from. Kirby Vieira brought us his GTX1 for detailing - and rather than just being careful, I'd rather play it the safest way: Make a roof. It took about 45 minutes to an hour to make. We used it for 10 minutes, and removed it in 20 seconds. This is how careful I am in my work.

Here is a copy and paste from another post that I made recently:

"I cleaned the edges of where the roof *might be* and used 3M green tape to outline the creation. We then essentially sandwiched layers of plastic sheeting (Best known as garbage bags, cut at the seam) between the 3M tape, and another layer of 3M tape. At no time did the sheeting come in contact with the paint. I then put up three layers of said sheeting, followed by some high absorbent towels - that ALSO never touched the paint. In the end we were left with a faux roof that can with stand a few sprinkles here and there.

The GTX1 was still washed as if it had no roof, but the entire purpose of this creation was to leave absolutely no chance any water would get inside. It took about an hour to create it, but I'd rather do the job right than cut a corner and risk it. It looked silly, indeed, but in this case I was going for functionality verses looks. It worked flawlessly. Not a leak anywhere."

It may not be pretty, but it WORKED, and worked very well.

Jason:

I was able to drive my GTX-1 in the 4th of July parade in the rain with a 6 x 8 foot blue tarp. My daughter loved driving with me. She thought she was camping. It was a good thing I was only driving at parade speeds but it worked well. I used 4 bungee cords to hold the tarp in place. About half through the parade the sun came out and I was able to unhook the bungee cords and drive topless.

I guess growing up watching McGiver helped.

:cheers

This one did not, and I am not sure if future versions will. Can anyone clue us in?

I believe Mark is delivering and installing several hard tops at the Rally. The soft tops will follow.

doesn't gtx1 come with a soft top?

There were some post in the GTX1 section of the forum on what is happening with the tops. For some reasion they seem to have been truncated and or deleted to the bit bucket. I think there are less than a handfull of GTX1 with any kind of top, hard or soft. :confused

Does anyone know how many millgrams of Viagra it takes to convert a soft top to a hard top, or did the production switch over to Cialis causing delays? :lol

A few X1's have hard tops. I understand only one has a soft top, but the 1st 2 non-Genaddi prototype soft tops will be tested next month by Shadowman and the GT Guys prior to the production button being pushed. After the soft tops, the hard tops will be addressed. Shleby#18 is funding and coordinating production of the prototype soft tops. :cheers

Hey Jason, Why didn't you just dry-wash the GTX1?

Hey Jason, Why didn't you just dry-wash the GTX1?
Not everyone understands a dry wash and if a customer saw me dry washing their vehicle, doesn't matter if dry washing is considered safe or not, I think I would lose that customer. I don't agree with the theory of dry washing personally, and from my experience in clear coat repair from everything I have seen and fixed, I don't see how any product can be so magical as to separate the contamination from your clear coat and not allow it to slide or scratch across it ever so lightly as you wipe it off. All methods of washing cars can be debated but my choice has been to use the weight of the foam to carry off sediment and contamination to the ground or rocker panels before any agitation. I have inspected body panels under intense direct light before and after the foam gun wash and have found the end result to be superb. Just my .02 and I know everyone has one :thumbsup
