The original Batmobile from the TV series starring Adam West and built by George Barris recently sold for $4.6 million. It's a '55 Ford underneath all that Bondo and Lead.

I wonder what would be worth more - the Batmobile or the de-modded Ford/Lincoln Futura on which it was based. The Futura is the last one left.

I'd like to own a repro Batmobile. Either that or a repro General Lee.

Ed

"With a tight deadline, he decided that modifying the Futura, rather than starting from scratch, was the way to go."

Well, at least that explains why he committed this particular 'auto blasphemy'.

Regardless, he should have left the car alone IMHO...maybe just painted it black, slapped the Batman logos on it & called 'er good...or at least only used a scalpal on it instead of a chainsaw.

the biggest waist of money I have ever seen, don't ever see and upside.. He must have been a heck of a fan of the show... if he is happy... God bless him..

I'm BATMAN

Buyers wife had a huge rack. He was keeping her happy, I was there....

Barret Jackson has a winning formula, liquor'em up, inflate their egos and the Batmobile sells over $4 mil, :lol :lol :lol

Ehh, that's 23 Ford GT's. Hell no. :lol

I agree...very unique auction. Seems that the lion's share of the buyers have way more money than brains there. Many cars sell there for well over what they would fetch elsewhere IMO..so if you buy one there, that's the only place you can sell it to recoup your outlay.

If you are looking for a fun driver and not something restored to concours there were some deals. More so at Russo and Steele but were plenty at both. About 40% of the cars don't make The Speed Channel.

I was there as well. As soon as the car came on the crowd stood and cheered (not i...). Never seen that before. Strange things happen at BJ. Absolutely no comment on hammer price (nuts)...

Was much more interesting being at Gooding and watching a Ferrari 250 hammer at $7.5 to a bidder in the room.

Maybe if Batgirl came with the car?

Ed

PS And we don't need to see any modern day photos of Yvonne Craig fellas! I mean the young Batgirl!

One of the best BJ bargains I saw was the restored 70' Boss 302 that went for $57k, the worst (disregarding the Batmobile) was the hot rodded 70' Mach I for $315k. All logic out the window on both of those sales.

Thanks BlackIce. Yvonne is better as Batgirl though!
