I wanted to get a Sears but could not figure out which model to get so this is helpful. I went with the Odyssey 25PC1400 which has 820 CCA at a cost of $239 at battery mart (as I mentioned in another thread) I also have an Odyssey 1230 in my 06--both fit well and are so called "military grade" and said to last a long time. Sears would be a good choice since there are so many stores and purchase and return , if needed would be easy.

Might be good to have something in the tech section listing battery replacement options.

Is the Odyssey gel type a la Optima or liquid type ?

Okay, I've got one of these bad boy Die Hard Platinum batteries in the garage trickle charging to make sure it is ready to go in to the GT, hopefully tommorow. I bought it today, FYI, if any one is going this route, check the date code on the battery. They had three of them in stock, and there were six months difference in the manufacture date. I bought the freshest one which was made in June of 2010. One was from January, and I would prefer not to buy a battery that is almost a year old before I start using it. I'll let the forum know if there is any problem with it fitting in the GT.

junior, the Die Hard Platinun is made for Sears by Odyssey from what I have learned. As your description states for the Platinum it is a glass mat non spillable design. I would assume that the Odyssey batteries are of the same design.

Just to clairfy, which item number is correct? item # 22850080 or #02850080000.

The Sears Platinum is very likely made by Odyssey and re-branded. Regardless, they are both a AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) design. I would call this a "conventional" battery design containing high quality lead and acid (but the acid is in the mats). In contrast the, Optima's are NOT a conventional lead battery. They have some kind of proprietary pixy dust magic that makes them work. (See how technical I am?)

For what it's worth, I would recommend the Sears Platinum over the Optimas. They're gonna weigh just a tad more but I think they will last much longer and they will withstand periods of non-use better than the Optima. I think owners will see much fewer gauge initialization problems (but that's mostly a guess - assuming the issue largely stems from low voltage situations). Regarding gauge FAILURES, wishful thinking would believe there's a chance for improvement here too, but the odds are against it. Nevertheless, I think these batteries are better all around for our cars. JMO ICBW

OK, just slid the Sears Platinum in place, and there were no fitment issues at all. Blue Moose, Sears Part # on my invoice is 22850080. This looks like a slam dunk to me. Plus I now have a Ford GT Optima door stop that appears to be fully charged. I just don't trust the Optima. I had one less than two years old go bad in my GT350 clone some time ago, and have not liked them since. Had a conventional battery in it now for five years and still going strong.

Even if there is only a 1% chance that a low voltage battery condition causes guage failures, I feel more comfortable with this Die Hard. I know my Optima went dead at one point and I also know I had two guage failures not long there after.

We need a CF battery cover .......................... Hint ...... Hint !!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there a way to program a minimum voltage reading before the GT is allowed to get started?

If the Sears is a re branded Odyssey, why is the Sears at 710 cold cracking Amps, and the Odessy at 820 :confused

I think on another forum a EnerSys rep confirmed that the platinum Diehard is a rebadged Odyssey (EnerSys makes both) but that does not mean they are identical. I suspect for branding reasons the Odyssey which tries to be a high end "military grade" battery has a deal for the more industrial grade version. EnerSys claims to be the world's largest manufacturer of "industrial" batteries and entered into the deal to make Diehards for Sears in 07. I have 2 Odyesseys but would go with the Sears in a second given availablity/warranty.

After my OEM battery died within the first year I went to Batteries Plus told them what I had and they hooked me up. No battery issues since, never had any gauge problems. Car sits on OEM charger while not in use.

Thank you GT35065 and Peiserg. Purchased and installed 2 Sears Platinum batteries today :thumbsup
