Can someone tell me what kind of car this is and what the (approximate) value is? Thanks!

It most likely is one of a kind, a rare car indeed.

Early 60's Ford Thunderbird prototype?

For a value, you might look up that "Oldsmobile Corvette" prototype that sold a year or two ago.

.

Red one.

Looks like a Ghia design study

It is a 1954-55 Ghia Desoto - Adventurer II show car built for Chrysler. If you can buy it it is worth whatever someone will pay for it. Likely quite a bit of $$$. It is somewhat famous within the car show arena.

Wow, the knowledge here is astounding. A woman here at works says this one belongs to her grandfather (living in Italy) and the grandchildren had no idea what it was or what it was worth. As such, they showed it to the car guy at work (that would be me) and I said that I could prob answer that within 24 hours. Thanks Richard and others.... mystery solved.

You are welcome(I figured it was red :willy)
However, pretty impressive Richard!

A Google search indicates that only one exists and it is in the Blackhawk Collection in California. There must be more (or less) to this story. A true, undiscovered Adventurer II in good condition would be worth a lot of lira.

Wow, imagine finding that in your parents garage.

You definitely know your cars Richard. :thumbsup

Its a GHIA and yes could be her families at one time, it was designed and the panels beaten out in ITALY!! CIAO, CIAO......GTJOEY:biggrin
