As some may remember, I was on the hunt for a nice unmolested FR500S race car to be used as my track day mule. I knew Forum member Gino Lucci had one - as I admired his FR500S at the Rally in Utah/MMP. Although it did end up taking a year or so before he let me buy it - it´s now here in Denmark, and I did my first track day last week at Sturup Raceway in Sweden. What a great exerience :biggrin

A very big thanks go out to Gino. Not only for finally selling the car :wink, but especially for all his help and flexibility around the whole deal which made this the perfect buying experience. :thumbsup

:cheers
Anders

Thats just awesome Anders. Hope the first day out was fantastic!

Congrats Anders!! :cheers:cheers

So I expect hear tales of you terrorizing the European circuits with your American Iron very soon! :biggrin

So how would a 500s compare to a new boss302ls?

I think the 500s would be better due to the fact its a factory built race car.
Anders,Looking good buddy!

:agree:

Are you sure he didn't cut it half and use it in a movie?

You mean like the BMW Z8 in the Bond movie?:lol

Actually that is one question I never asked Gino, but if he did, he patched it up pretty nicely :wink As long as it doesn´t show up in the upcoming Fast & Furous movie I´m happy :rofl:biggrin

This one has got heads/cams/intake + some more mods and when we had it tuned for pump gas again, it made 384 rwhp which is about 100 rwhp over a stock FR500S. I´m pretty sure its equal the bigger FR500C now. It sure is much faster than the new driver :wink:facepalm::biggrin

Congrats Anders! Glad you got the FR500S over to Sweden and are having fun on the track with it. Your continued FR500 testing experience "might" now disqualify you from joining our NOLA track day as you will be much more experienced in the FR500 than the others.....

Interesting question. With Anders (and Chris) in rented FR500’s at NOLA and me in a Boss, the FR500’s were slightly faster in the twisties than the Boss. The NOLA Mustangs did not have the greatest tires (BFG’s with tread) while my Boss had R-compound Pirellis. And with no interior, the FR Mustangs were surely lighter than my OE Boss. That and Anders has more driving experience.

But the Boss could easily pull up and push the NOLA FR500s down the straight away. As Ander’s states above, his car is making 384 rwhp. My Boss came off the dyno making 396 rwhp and 343 lb-ft torque. Ander’s new FR500 probably has more power than those at NOLA but the Boss should be close to holding its own, IMO.

Anders will soon be able to make the direct comparison when he picks up his Boss at R8.

Thanks:biggrin

I´m pretty sure the FR500S at NOLA were stock in regard to the engine, so actually stock 4.6 Mustang motor with maximum 280-290 on the rear wheels. At NOLA the BOSS pulled stronger down the straight - and I´m really not sure that the FR500S is that much lighter than stock.

But really looking forward to the roadtrip in the 2012 Boss in California :biggrin Thanks for putting me together with yet another great FGT Forum member for the B2 deal :thumbsup

I was going to guess that the Boss would have the advantage with the engine, but the FR500S would have it in the handling, but that in the end, it might be pretty close. The FR500 is a few years older and the Boss really improved things. In the case of a tie, you can drive the Boss on the street.

Nicely done Anders!!! In your pictures I am sure you were passing that other Mustang:thumbsup

Anders, now you NEED a companion piece: https://www.racingjunk.com/NASA-American-Iron/181746204/2009-Grand-Am-GS-Champion-FR500C.html

Already have one like it .... actually wanting to sell this one. Last time I counted my cars it ended up with a total of 23 and that is simply too many - so really wanting to cut down to about 10 "fun" cars and a few for daily driving .....

And FR500S was the track car I wanted from the very beginning - so when I bought FR500C#004 it was simply a "in between" substitute :wink:wink:facepalm:

By the way .... the smile really won´t wipe off ......:biggrin
