Forget the 4.0 Whipple and TT

Roush.

Aren't the race Mustangs posted other people's planes that are sponsored by Roush? I don't believe those are owned by Roush. He owns two & they are not raced!

Correct. The red/white P-51 racer "Strega" is owned by Bill Destefani. All P-51 racers use Roush reproduction parts as most original parts are no longer available. Roush is the guy keeping the P-51 in the air instead of in museums. He doesn't even really sponsor any race planes as I understand it other than selling parts at a discount.

Seldom will you ever see this many Mustangs in the same place at the same time. Beautiful planes 'eh. Here's a better look at a freshly built Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 in a BRAND NEW P-51D under construction. It can be yours for 2.5 to 3 million dollars. I'll do a whole thread with photos from last weekend when I get a chance.

that is just the most glorious thing i have ever seen :bow

and i thought my neighbors Thunder Mustang with a V-12 Falconer engine was trick :lol

i got to go for a free ride in a P-51 mustang some 15+ years ago back when they were still running 120 octane fuel. we did an aileron roll and buzzed the tops of the saguaros about 100' above deck of the desert floor at 300 knots (345 mph) for about 5 miles straight. we also pulled some moderate G turns, etc. it was a trainer so the jump seat in the back had a stick, peddles, etc. it was a 30 minute flight and the fumes from the burnt avgas were coming into the cockpit and i was HIGH as a kite. i had a parachute on and i was about ready to blow the canopy off the damn thing and bail out by the end of that flight :willy

Black Ice - you can fly a dual control P-51D next weekend May 28+. It's only a few miles from your house. Look up the Collins Foundation! I've flown with them. They have a cool dual seat Me-262! I'll meet you there if you want to do it. PM me.

me and 3 of my family members went for a 30 minute flight in the B-17 Flying Fortress Bomber a couple weeks ago here in Tucson. it was only $450 per person and is tax deductible. the top of the B-17 has a hole in it about twice the size of a man hole cover in the street. you can literaly stick about 1/4 of your body out the top of the aircrafts fuselage into the airstream and i did just that at 160 mph for about 5 minutes :biggrin

the view to the rear was the best as we went through a banked turn and i could see the rudder, etc in action from outside the plane :cool

i climbed through the bomb bay into the forward most gun turrett that is at the very nose of the plane in front of and below the pilot and co-pilot and that view was incredible too :bow

the P-51 ride is either 30 minutes or 1 hour long and is like $3500 as i recall but i did not do that because i have already been there and done that 15 years ago for free :thumbsup

i will post pictures and vidz as soon as my brother in-law emails them to me. from the forward most gun pod you can see the front of the radial engines in action as the propellers are spinning. we got that on vid too :cheers

I've taken that B-17 ride and was a thrill of a lifetime, especially when not being shot at.
