guys i was looking through some old photos on my computer and came across these. These were taken at a local car show while Ford Canada was caravanning around showing the then called "GT40". These were taken in Sept of 2002. WOW along time ago and well before 2004 pre production models were done.

Notice the smaller light in the lower front driving / fog lights like the originals had in the 60s.

I like the red block behind the wheel best...

In all seriousness, I love early marketing pictures like these.

Yeah that matching gas cap was the first thing I noticed. Wasn't the initial plan to have one for gas one for coolants?

Don't feel like The Lone Ranger! Wifey & I would BOTH be driving one right now if Ford had made 'em. I'm REALLY disappointed they weren't built.

EP I will take a look. I do remember that the inside in the middle had a chrome /ss rod that went from the from front to back. It think it had to do with the tranny and gear selection. I was more interested in the GT and the Mach 1 than the 49 at the time so i may not have any more pics of it.

Found a few more. Notice the exhaust and switches in the interior. Look where some of those switches are located!! How bout those airplane style AC vents and SEAT INSERTS!!!
EP, sorry, no 49s yet.

Windshield Wiper notch.

I kinda wish that the '49 Ford had an updated version of the flathead V8.

I hear you, but, an engine like that really could only be specific to that car, so, the bean counters would undoubtedly go NUTS (and, sadly, they'd be right in doing so). But then, I ain't sayin' anything you don't already know!

Real world, I'd like to have seen the '49' engine bay designed with room for several of Ford's crate engines…not just the manditory 4-banger & mild V-6 "grocery getter" power plants. I’d ALSO like to have seen at least ONE ‘Stang “go fast” engine option!

That car kudda been soooooooo kool on soooooooooo many levels...:willy:willy:willy

and the "seat buttons" on the floor mats and the three airplane vents in the door.

and the bundle of snakes exhaust. Wish our GT's had enough room for it.

My '69 SL heater vents are like that, with pivoting disc to regulate flow
