An Aussie friend explained to me that the reason cars are so expensive down under is the duty one pays to the government to bring a car into Oz. He said that the duty is to protect the Australian automobile industry - which is now defunct. Go figure.

Costs about $80,000.00 to do a right hand conversion.. Australian law dictates that any vehicle imported into Australia, built after 1989 must be converted to Right hand drive, and comply with Australian Design rules.. apparently Australian authorities know more than the USA do about car safety.. So I can import a 1988 Mustang, and just licence and drive it, but a 1990 mustang has to be converted to right hand drive and ADR complianced. Go figure . !!!!!

That´s a lot of money but if you go to countries like Norway and Denmark which have crazy taxation on impporting and registering a car, you will have a hard time finding a legally registered FGT for less than $550000 no matter what color you look for ..... and we don´t even have to convert to right hand drive :eek
