Gainesville was one of our very favorite places to race! The fans there treated us like royalty. I have some really good memories from there.
Two of my all time favorite memories were there, and included Dick LaHaie in one, and Kenny Bernstein the other.

Good times!

Kenny is a good guy. I remember when he wanted to include drag racers in IROC events. My buddy , Ricky Rudd was driving for him in the Cup series and agreed to show him the ropes. Kenny followed RR around the track as Ricky increased speed . Ricky looked in the mirror and Kenny was in the wall and his IROC aspirations were over.

Eddie FourFather Hill - racing trophies in 9 decades

From Eddie and Ercie Hill

We are happy to announce the runner-up and third place trophies Eddie won at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit in Hallett, Oklahoma, on September 11-12, 2020 in his new Firman Formula B road racer, powered by a Kawasaki ZX1000 motorcycle engine. It was our first time on track with the new car.

This milestone represents nine decades of wins for Eddie, starting with the first trophy he won riding a Cushman motor scooter which he hopped up himself. He has now won trophies in the 1940’s, 1950’s, 1960’s, 1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s, 2000’s, 2010’s, and now 2020’s owning/driving/tuning dragsters, motorcycles, drag boats, and now open wheel road racers.

And he has the scars to prove it.

Eddie is the team owner/driver/tuner, and Ercie co-owns and acts as crew chief. Our crew members are Tito Barboza and Karl Strouhal. The race team is sponsored by Eddie Hill’s Fun Cycles, Inc., at 401 North Scott in Wichita Falls.

We give the honor and glory of our racing achievements to the Lord, and thank Him for blessing us so abundantly.

By the way, Eddie is 84 years old – blessed and highly favored - thank you, Lord!

Our local TV station did an interview with Ercie and I regarding our two podium finishes the first weekend out with our new Firman F1000 Kawasaki powered road racer.

Because with our first win with a Cushman motorscooter that I hopped up, being in 1949, and these last trophies in 2020, and some in every decade in between, that made it nine decades that we have been blessed with trophies, championships, or awards, and the station thought that was worth an interview.

The good Lord has blessed us beyond measure, and He gets all the credit and thanks!

Cheers, Eddie and Ercie

Over on the Corvette forum, they started a thread about share your old race car pictures, and I posted and enjoyed these, and wanted to share them here.
At the Indy Nationals I am in the twin engined Pontiac dragster, running against Don's brother ED Garlits.

And here I'm running against Mickey Thompson- four engines at work here. Big fun with a car I designed and built 60 years ago.

I don't think many of the guys build their own cars anymore-

Cheers,

Eddie

I built the car originally at 93 inch wheelbase, which was NHRA's minimum at the time, and ran it at that length in 1961 and 1962, so those pictures at Indy were one of those years.

I had a sports writer that seemed to know what he was talking about, tell me earlier this year, that the 202.7 mph quarter mile run that I made with this twin engined gas dragster at Hobbs, NM in 1962, was the first ever 200 mph run, gas OR fuel.

Cheers,

Eddie

Eddie, did you have any great battles with TV Tommy Ivo ?

Lots of days spent at Green Valley Raceway in the late 60's.

TV Tommy Ivo put on a great show for us at Amarillo back in the day with his show-car quality dragster and his incredible see-through enclosed trailer.
He and I headlined an event at Corpus Christi where we ran a two out of three match race. He was always smiling and upbeat and fun to talk to.

We talked again, a few years ago, about the possibility of the two of us taking a commercial ride on a rocket into outer space. That would have to be one of the ultimate adventures, but almost too pricey for words.

We talked again about a year ago, and we both quit considering riding a rocket into outer space. I am completely immersed in open-wheel road racing now- have THREE open wheel ground-based rocket ships, and Tommy told me he is into virtual reality adventures. Tommy is a really cool, ageless guy!

Thanks for jogging some pleasant memories with your question.

Cheers,

Eddie
