I thought you guys might get a kick out of this. My car on a Dyno at a BMW event.

I love the tech... makes me laugh every time.

great pull,... nice flames,.... drum roll, and the numbers are???

heh... well it was a DynoDynamics machine so the number will seem low... 577rwhp

I tuned the car last week on a DynoJet and the car made 648 rwhp.

The techs reaction time is a little slow.....

Pulley or Kenne Bell ?

Has anyone used the Metco pulley?
http://www.metcomotorsports.com/products.asp?cat=104

Is anyone using the Kenne Bell drive and happy? Some old posts talked about leaks and I don't really need to be changing pulleys all the time. If I get the right one it can stay.

I don't want to upgrade to a whipple, just a little boost to 15 PSI. I will install myself and Dyno tune. I don't need a $500 OR $600 PULLEY. Suggestions?

Never saw that one. Interesting design allowing one to change the pulleys via bolts. Note access to the bolts may be difficult, or impossible with the blower installed, but even if that is the case, it would be a lot easier than disassembling the front of the blower and using a puller and a press each time. However, once changed how often do you envision changing the pulleys? Once you are addicted to the new found power you will never go back! :biggrin

I'm thinking about the 2.8 one. The Whipple site offers a pulley a tad smaller but for silly money. Their belts are crazy too. A stock ford belt is $50. What's up with all these high prices?

The off the shelf sizes of 10 rib belts are limited. My understanding is that Whipple modifies (removes ribs) the belts to get the right length. If you are handy with a blade and want to take the time and risk you can buy a 12, or 14 rib belt and have a go at it. A word of caution though, the belts are a bit*h to change and I know of a least one belt that had problems with a poorly cut ribs that had to be replaced with very low miles on it.

Price of Ford GT pulleys, press-on style, run $249.99 so I don't think there silly money. Some sale these for quite a bit more.

Belts are expensive because there custom, nobody makes 12-rib belts in the sizes needed for these applications. Ford ordered somewhere near 5000 belts, they get a pretty good discount :)

Thanks,
Dustin

I agree

However you meant 10 rib which is why you have to create custom 10 rib belts; correct?

The Whipple web site shows the pulleys at 329.99. Where can you buy one for $$249.99? That's only $100 over the Metco Price. I'm not sure about the quality of the Metco Pulley but considering Pulleys for Mustangs run around $100 (different sizes) I think $150 or so is a fair price for a GT pulley at Retail. I have not looked at the belt path, but I'm going to see if something could just be spaced to make up the slack and save all these expensive belt changes.

Roush sells a belt and pulley kit with oil for $300 Retail. The Pulley is a 3 inch though (had to measure it myself) and I want to go a little smaller. I don't know how long the belt is. It has their part number on it. Oddly enough they play dumb when you ask for information. I guess they don't want you to be able to compare. If the kit has a $189 belt and oil, that must only leave about $100 bucks for the Pulley???? I bought the kit for $200 Bucks by the way. So what does that tell you about the value of this stuff? I thought I could turn the pulley down but there is not enough meat on it. I may just buy the Metco Pulley and see what it's like. I think Goodyear makes 10 rib belts. I'll have to look into lengths if a space under some accessory doesn't pan out.

Called Whipple...They dropped their price today to $249.99. Better. Metco claims a new belt is not needed. I'm a bit skepticle. Does not appear to be an accessory in the path to move and make up slack. Did not mean to step on anybody's grapes. The stuff our friends offer us all seem to be at premiums tho.

Gates, Dayco, Goodyear all make 10-rib belts, but nobody makes them in the sizes required. As far as I know, and you can correct me if I'm wrong, but Roush just gives you shims to move one of the accessories out to take up the slack on the belt, I don't think they supply a new length belt, maybe just a stock replacment. We sale the blower oil, same stuff, you'll need our W210 oil bottle because the stock sc has a large reservoir.

Thanks,
Dustin

The blower belt has a tensioner in it's path. Some claim a new belt is not needed and have no issues, others say they get belt slippage with a pulley and stock belt length. Use the search button to read the old threads.

I mean not to cause a riff however value and price in my world are two different things

On almost all items I too can find a lower price and yet what I am drawn to is the best value.

When one considers smaller pulleys for example; initially they were a higher priced as the cost of creating the pieces had to be factored in and then as time passes these cost have been recovered as such the potential for a lower price exist. The key word is potential because sadly and all too often another company comes to market with a me too product however with no cost to develop because they are simply copying another’s as such their ability to sell for a lower price is easy to understand.

Now if one is drawn to the lower price as a matter of practice then they all too often discourage companies that introduce new products from doing so. This is very simply because a new product generally requires front loaded cost associated with R&D and market development aka risk and if in assuming this risk another is going to be encouraged/allowed to copy it as evidenced by the consumer banging on their door then it would make no sense. As consumers we truly do guide the ship through our actions and sadly IMO being focused only on price creates the basis for many people to lose.

So many would say get a patent; sadly the very idea of protecting a proprietary/unique product or service is both expensive and can be arduous process and in the end does not insure that a like kind product will not be presented which then opens the next financial draining door; litigation.

There are many great vendors that actively participate within this forum and this not only instills confidence but IMO also adds value to their offerings.

The shimming to which you speak is the moving of the power steering pump.
