Well with no help from John Hennessey I have used the Cadillac CTS-V as a motivational tool. Every since John went on a fun ride with my son Logan and I to Texas World Speedway and blew away a few Lambo's and F-cars on the course with his, My son has lusted for one. He has a new Nissan Titan truck but now has the Caddy as his screen saver on his computer, phone and carries a picture of it around with him. He wants one so intensely I thought how can I use this for my benefit? Well, Logan is in the middle of being recruited by several small D1 colleges and some D2 ones for their golf team. As a senior he will make his decision in the next couple of months. I have told him that if he can athletically and academically get his college paid for we will work a deal. He has his sights set on a D2 school in Austin, St. Edwards University, that would set me back the price of a GT if I have to pay for it. I think trading the Titan and adding a little cash sounds so much better. HaHa. It is amazing what motivates people. In this deal it is certainly a Win / Win for me. I did have to sell his mother on how much safer the Caddy would be as he drives back and forth from school. I didn't happen to mention that he can make that drive 30 mins faster in the caddy. Some things Moms just do not need to know.:rofl:rofl
I have noticed GT Drummer and several others on the forum have one already, any comments would be appreciated.

What? He is not applying to the Lago Vista Technical Institute?

Have you been back here lately? Aquapalooza was a blast.

We traveled the country this year playing AJGA golf tournaments to showcase Logans golfing skills. So Lago Vista was just a great memory this summer. We have big plans to be there a ton more as soon as he signs his Letter of Intent. My wife will be there tonite, she is working in Austin the next couple of days. We heard that there was a boat ban from the heavy rains last week? Is the road along the shoreline flooded again?

Hey Larry,

Everything is ok here. Lake Austin took the hit this time. Travis rose 8 feet, but I have not seen any debris. I raced a friend of mine with my waverunner Saturday and all I saw was clear clean water. Let me know when you are back.

You son has great tastes! I have the CTS-V and I absolutely friggen' love it. For me it is the perfect car. (OK, if it got twice the gas mileage and weighed half as much, it WOULD be the pefect car.) But seriously, the car is an absolute joy to drive. It tools easily around town and in traffic. The A/C is just killer and sometimes even the lowest fan speed is too much. The Recaro seats are super comfortable (don't listen to the magazines). The Bluetooth integration is perfect and you can talk easily at any speed. The sound system is amazing and the 30GB OEM hard drive is super cool. One touch sunroof and windows, heated AND cooled seats among the creature comforts. The ride is firm but very comfortable. It is a comfy, comfy, cruiser.

But.....

When provoked....

IT IS A BEAST! 556HP/551TQ is something to behold. That's GT horsepower! It is an amazing, amazing, amazing car. Did I say that I LOVE it???
 
I had one of the first CTS-Vs delivered in the Fall of 08. It is a daily driver that replaced my 06 M5. I have 25,000 miles on it and (knock on wood) it has been great. Brute force in a comfortable car. Agree on Bluetooth, and GPS/Audio screen is huge and works well. Only "lows " are shi$$y paint and where most live you need winter tires--PS2s are hockey pucks under 32 degrees)

My son drives it when he is home from college. BTW, he had D1/D2 basketball offers but decided to play D3 golf (tired of running) Now he is at D1 school and trying to walk on golf team. Kids!! (could have bought a GT and CTS-V for my daughter's college tuition)

CTSV is a great car. They have a history of rear axle issues. That is the only weak point that I know of.

The older generation "V1" were not built to handle the torque. The V2 has no issues that I know of. My V has been my favorite DD ever. As mentioned, it goes from fat cat cruiser to snarling beast with the push of a few buttons. Although the power plant is massive, my favorite part of the car is the suspension. I traded a M6 for the caddy and for once, I think I got the better end of the deal. Ironically, I raced an M6 at a 1/4 mile track last weekend and beat him pretty handedly. I even had a passenger In the car when I did it.

When they make a better V, I'll trade mine in.
 
Yeah, no rear axle problem that I have ever heard of with V2. About the worst I have heard is annoying wheel clicking which I had but went away. There is TSB on it and they have replaced some wheels.
 
Let's see some photos of your CTS-V's! Who's going to be first on the forum to get the new Coupe?

Well, I have driven many CTS-V's, and they are truly impressive, but I decided to buy one with about 800 lbs less to lug around. It is possibly the best practical supercar you can get for the money.

Caddy is coming out with a CTS-V wagon this autumn. Any thoughts on what that would be like? I'm very interested in either the sedan or the wagon.

By no means do I want to tell you what to do but you may want to read this thread from an M5 board.

It is the tread where the M5 Board members learn that an 18 year old member from their community crashed his M5 and died along with four of his friends. It’s a very somber read. 556 hp is a lot for any driver, especially an inexperienced one. We all did stupid things at 18. That much horsepower at that age seems a little high risk to me... just my opinion.

I understand your concerns. I worry everytime he leaves the house either in the 550HP or The Subaru Tribeca. He has many limitations and experiencing the car at the track either Drag Strip or Texas World Speedway is on the list of Must Do's and Have Dones. He has been around our type of cars all his life and knows of many of these examples. After that you must trust them. That being said we have had the talk and I lived up to my Promise. He signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf for St. Edwards University in Austin. (About 2 miles from where Bony's ashes were released) and here he is with the CTS-V. Bought from Sewell Cadillac in Dallas this week.

BTW- He doesn't dress like this everyday. HaHa We were on the way home about 5 p.m. this afternoon from a 2 day golf tournament here in Houston and were driving by his High School and I thought what a great opportunity. High Temp. today in Houston 82. Wore shorts to the tournament and got sun burned. Sorry for all you guys snowed in. Logan came in second place and that was the big smile or was it the CAR!!!

Congratulations. That is identical to my 09 which I have already put 28,000 miles on. Consider the Corsa sport exhuast--he would like it.
I am just glad my kids don't read this forum--2 of them received partial sports scholarships to college. Good luck.
 
GTdrummer, Thanks, perfect! He has already asked what we could do about the exhaust! Wants it more like the GT sound and I have the Accufab. I am headed to John Hennesseys site for a cold air intake (For the gas mileage haha) maybe for a Christmas present. His is still a partial athletic scholarship but supplemented with an academic that should get us close to full.

Little known fact: Tiger was one of only a very few golfers to ever get a FULL Div I or II golf scholarship. Was told by the Stanford Coach he would also probably be the last!

We took the car to the golf tournament Tuesday and it is a very nice ride. I need to get it away from Logan for a few minutes to see how it REALLY handles.

Santa needs a heads up on a hidden GPS system to keep an eye on Logan for a few months till I am sure of his commitment. HaHaHa

Couple of things. You are in Texas so this should not matter but don't let him drive it (assuming the OE tires are still PS2s) in really cold weather. The tires are like hockey pucks and folks have had a lot of problems. I called Michelin and they confirmed not to run them below 38 degress--of course Caddy says nothing. The Pirelli Sottozeros are great for cold.

If you go Corsa--get the sport not touring. John H. likely has something as good or better. Only other issues have been tire clicking which was likely solved by now and paint is not great. Otherwise a much better car than my M5

Thats what the onstar is for. I believe it can track speed as well....

Congrats to your son, I am sure he has worked very hard for his athletic/academic scholarships!
