A few questions... unfortunately we will not have our GT with us

1. Would like to rent a Ford... Any help with what model Fords may be available there with automatic? Understand they have different models than in the US.
2. Guessing they have navigation in English and will not be too difficult to find our way to the golf course hotel from the airport.

Many of us are taking the super train from Paris to LeMans and renting cars there. Search various car companies for what they have available. I'm using Sixt. Have used them many times in Europe. Auto transmission must be specified. Remember, a BMW 3 series is considered a big car.

I would suggest renting a car outside Paris at Le Mans or wherever en route for you. Most TGV stations have rental agencies. IMHO much easier than navigating Paris. Orly airport much easier than CDG though, as on West side of the city.

I always bring a Garmin from home, preloaded with Europe maps. Works effortlessly.

I totally agree with what is said above.

CDG Airport being far North of Paris, while Le Mans is in the South West, the journey is long and difficult to reach the motorway towards Le Mans.
The fast train (TGV) will allow you to relax before the tiring weekend of the race, and we all hope, before the great celebration of the victory of the Ford GT.

Remember to book your rental car, a long time in advance, specifying what you want, because the demand is very high during the weekend of the race.
The idea to carry your personal GPS with European maps is excellent. In any way it can be useful.

Do not hesitate, if I can help you.

Pending the pleasure to meet all of you, in Le Mans, I send you my best regards from France.

Francis.

We are renting a car at CDG, hopefully not a mistake in the long run. I feel better behind the wheel vs figuring out trains. And yes, taking our our GPS, I always travel with one.

We are on the train from CDG with Frankie and the Sims'. Train station is easy to find at CDG. Bought our tix already. $250 round trip per person. The car rental is at the train station at Le Mans. We are staying a week and return the rental the following Weds.

I was surprised how cheap the rental car is, Hertz tuesday to monday am ~$250 (finally booked it this morning this thread reminded me needed to do this). We are staying in Paris Tuesday night, so this gives us the flexibility to come and go as we please.

We did the same and don't forget to contact your cell phone provider for international service.

What time does the train depart for Le Mans... Is there a train # and departure time? Any chance you could email a copy of the ticket to make sure we get on the same train if possible?

TGV on lower level in CDG airport. Lot to see and do in the area (wives will be happy i am sure to see other sites!) For those of you renting cars, be careful, France full of photo radar (often with signs warning you ahead). Not like the 60s! You will not know about the speed traps until you get home and get the bill from the car rental agency (and a surplus charge!) Read your rental contract!!

And I got the last Sixt Car Rental Ford GT at Le Mans Station that they had (even though there was a 37 euro premium for the four days)!

Yup, on it. Just did it for Canada last month, so it's on the mind. Sadly will be wrapped up in getting a new phone, switching phones is such a pain.

Looking forward to this event for sure!

AwsumGT - I'll email you the train itinerary tonight when I get home.

When I was in France & Belgium last year I just used Google map on my iPhone. One less thing to bring. Plus no need to update. I did get the international plan for my Verizon phone though.

For texting use Viber as it is free to send text, photos & videos. You just have to have whomever you want to text to have the Viber app also.

So is a rental necessary? Or will we have transport back and forth during the event?
from the golf resort...

We will need transport from the golf chalet to the track on our own. Or we can get a group van. Anyone want to check on it?

Drive from the airport.....
when we were there in 2010 with the Ford and Matech Team , we rented a car at Charles DG and drove to Lemans. There are several motorways and we were told the Toll Booths would take US Credit Cards.... they DID NOT.
So , Margaret and I pissed a lot of French drivers off as we had to back up from the toll booth and go to a 'cash-only' lane.
Luckily we had some French Money .
So, remember to get some French Money at the Airport before you start your journey.
Have a Great time...!!!

There is currently a petrol strike in France, purchases are being limited to 20 Euros at a time, which will get our GTs about 100 miles!

I also hear rumblings about possible train strikes/delays too.
