Business Owners....

Dave, I would have thought that nationalism was alive and well in America - you suprise me.

I personally admire the fact that Americans swear allegiance to the flag and it irritates me that Britain is being gradually absorbed into the corporate blob and nonsense that is 'Europe' full of faceless, unelected beaurocrats too frightened to make any decisions. We're almost embarrassed to have a Royal family and to have retained our currency....

Whilst some forms of nationalism are flawed and can lead to fairly horrid behaviour (I'm thinking some of our 'nationalistic' political parties here in the UK, France and Germany too), generally I think it's a good thing to be proud of your country.

So I would have thought that my American friends on this Forum would have a double-whammy effect by owning a GT. 1) It's a fabulous car and better or equal to anything out there 2) It's American. Equally with my Aston Martins - lovely cars and terribly British, it enhances the pleasure somehow.

Maybe I misunderstood your post and have gone off piste!!

I guess nationalism takes different forms in different countries. Yes we have a great deal of respect for the flag and other national symbols. But except for the union people don't care where our car was made.

We also root for other country's athletes at the Olympics and elsewhere against our own many times. We even attack our television networks for showing too many Americans at Olympic events and not showing foreigners. I can't imagine that ever occurring in any other country especially in Europe.

Dave, do you think one of the attractions of the GT is that it is an American car,
I am proud of our great marque like the Viper, Vette and Cobra??? It is sad to me that our automotive business has lost share to Japan.

Definitely. Take a CB Radio and drive on the interstate. Listen to the truck drivers talking about the GT and the fact that its "American-made". The Corvette brings the same type of comments. Thenn listen to the comments about "them foreign cars".

The truck drivers will even protect the GT and Vette from the cops once they learn you have a CB with you.

Well it just goes to show that you never stop learning!

I'm always fascinated by American culture - not the stuff from Hollywood, but the real culture. I've been there many times (I worked for the Washington Post Group for 15 years) but found it hard to access somehow - the heart of the matter, if you see what I mean. I'd always assumed that the flag, and all it represents, ran deeper somehow....

I should have mixed with more truckers! :cheers

Truckers tell you a lot, sometimes you don't want to hear it.

Sorry, I don't know anyone in the show, but was impressed when I saw it last year. I'm down south across from St. Louis but have a sister in Schaumburg. They can't wait for me to drive the GT up to show off.

fjpikul,

My family flew out a couple of weeks ago to see their new grandson. Dad drove it and couldn't stop giggling. YEP!!! I said giggling. That's what the car does to grown men. Any one else have those symptoms? Then my sisters boyfriend who is 25 and a one time mechanic for Ford drove it. His heart rate went up and his palms got sweaty and I video taped it so that his friends back in DIXON, ILL. knew he wasn't lying. Your family up in Schaumburg is in for a real treat. :banana

Ha, while I live in Belleville, I work all week in Sterling, 10 miles from Dixon. The weather is just starting to get good, and as soon as my front bra comes in, I'm going to drive it up here to show off.

That's great. I remember the town of Sterling. I had an indoor track meet there in highschool. By the way? What was this thread about? because sooner or later we're going to get told to get back to the discussion at hand... maybe not :biggrin Anyway. went to Lake Park High School and then The University of Northern Iowa. Sisters went to ISU and NIU respectively

Bradley myself.
