Booster Seat in GT - what fits best?

I saw a few threads on baby seats using LATCH but nothing on booster seats. My 3 year old son is just moving to a booster and wants to ride in the GT>

Any thoughts on what booster you are using? Do you need one with a skinny base to fit the seat? Or will any old one work?

Those that have put one in your thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

Hey Jason,
Just use a phone book and a towel on top. It will depend on which town's book your using though. Then any old one will do. When your ready for a booster for the height challenged call Knights Autoworks for a seat cushion that looks just like the bottom of your seat. http://knightsautoworks.wordpress.com/seat-lowering-kit/

I don't know about your state but up here in the people's republic, all children shorter than 4'10", regardless of age, must be in an approved child safety seat.

Profitably enforced BTW. :bored

How about adults less than 4'10"? What is defined to be a child? Less than 12, 16 or 18 years old? I can see it now, some 80 year old little lady driving down the road using a chiild safety seat in the drivers seat. :lol

That I don't know. Hopefully less than 8 or 9.

Sometimes my six year old daughter rides with me, I put a folded up heavy blanket on the bottom of the seat, set in her car seat(this seat is not made to latch to the seat) put her in and then only use the seat belt works really great she is almost at the hight of a full size person.

My local laws (which I am quite fond of) state that he should be in a booster. Im a safety minded guy so will stick with that. ;)

When I get home I will try my daugthers booster and see how that fits. I'll report back.

I use the regular, Grayco, it sits a bit crooked, but I have never had a complaint :-) Usually only smiles, when one of my little guys is with me in the car! I did find the the Brittax, car seat (when they were smaller) locked in very well. FWIW.

Steve Hemstock of Knights automotive can help you (.A forum sponsor)
He will even match the seats!

Has anyone used the Recaro Performance high back booster? Tried fitting it today but the LATCH clips won't reach the anchors behind the seat, even with the seat all the way back. Am I missing something?

If the passenger seat is all the way back, the LATCH clips can be seen from the front, correct? It would seem to me that the anchors should be able to secure to the LATCH points. Is it the angle of the booster that is interfering with the seat angle?

Thanks Randy. Been doing a bit more research on these types of boosters and from what I gather, the LATCH doesn't contribute to the safety of the seat like they do in infant and convertible models?? More just a loose tether to keep the seat in place when not occupied while the actual seat belt provides all of the restraint function when in use. Can anyone confirm if this is correct?

As far as whether or not it's the angle, I'm not sure. I can't really contort myself to look directly from the front with the booster on the seat, but I can feel the gap along the back/side where you pass the clip. The booster is sitting as flat as possible on the seat. But even with the seat all the way back, the fixed length tethers don't seem to be long enough to reach the LATCH anchor points. No idea why Recaro didn't make these a bit longer, or better yet, adjustable.
