Donnymac,

I am planning on doing this!!!! I am having a planning meeting with several Cobra owners this saturday at Hooters. We are deciding who is going and who is navigating. I hope to have about 5 of us from Houston. My GT and 4 cobras. Any secrets? Anything to pass on to the guys at the meeting? Is the tech inspection really detailed? etc. I talked with her also this past week and she seemed to think if you get in by Feb. 1st you should be OK.

Great! Cobras will be an appreciated addition to what is generally a vette populated field. Secrets - none! Just run and have fun. Stockton/Sanderson are great west Texas towns with big hearts for visitors.

They are serious about tech and the rookie school. Tires, wheels, brakes, harness, helmet, suit, fire etc. This is year 9 for the race and the event popularity continues to grow and safety is key.

Its a country affair. Plenty of activity before and after the race. I am familiar with the race primarily as we ranch not far from Stockton and I know the race crew. This will be my first time to drive. :biggrin

Stay in touch.

Being a rookie I guess the lowest class for me. Will the GT pass stock or do I have to have 5 pt harness or anything else? The only problem is I don't have any type of racers liscense!!! They ask for something. What is the best to do for that.

Larry

Larry,

I entered this last year in the 110 class and all you need is stock seatbelts, proper shoes, gloves, and an approved helmet. I used an egg timer taped to the a/c vent and missed my time by 1.7 seconds.

It was a blast. You will have a great time.

Bill

Bill,

You were my inspiration!!! Matter of fact Tony will be the navigator. Are you doing it again? 110 Class, what are you speed limited at high and low?

Larry

Lots of Snow where your at?

Not much snow, but very cold.

You have a tech speed of 124 in the 110 class and can't go under 95.

Not sure if I can come this year, but will know next week.

I will move to the 125 or 130 class if I do go as I put in harnesses this year.

They mention you need some/any kind of competition license. Is that only for the higher class or did you get one?

Larry

I had to attend rookie school and go out with an instructor just so they could see I could handle the speed.

They make it really easy for the first-timer. You will have a great time.

If this is your first road race, they will put you in a category that only requires state drivers license. Having SCCA card etc helps them determine your history. Bottom line - not having a card will not prevent you from racing.

DonnyMac,

I have entered and reserved my hotel rooms.

See you there! :banana

I signed up for the BBOR Saturday, see you guys there

I really wish we could get Jason/Mullett to run but I do not think he would have fun running that slow for 59 miles.:lol:lol
Soroush, Sanjay, Tommy, etc. Any thoughts of playing in Big Bend?

Larry

Glad you signed up Steve. One month after Texas Mile so do not break the car!!!!

Larry,
Please dont even say that !! (break the car)

3 months till the BBORR! Anyone else going? Tallcarguy, Donnymac, Steve, Me, etc.

Larry,

It does not look like I will make it this year. I hate to miss it, especially since they are using my GT and license plate on their home page.

You guys will have a great time. Both Ft Stockton and Sanderson go out of their way to make it an enjoyable event. One of the best parts was taking the cars to the grade school in Sanderson and having the kids come out and talk to the drivers.

Buy some candy that you can toss out the window for the parade in Ft Stockton. The kids come running out in the streets to pick it up. I went with a group that goes every year and they told me about that or I wouldn't have been prepared.

Bill

I've got my paperwork all filled out, this sounds like fun, submitting tomorrow. First open road race, so I'm ok with the slower class, going for 105 to get my feet wet. No navigator, so I'll need to get creative with my time keeping, can anyone recommend a good rally computer?. Look forward to seeing a few of you guys there, unless it rains, then I'm out.....no top.

Kelly

Kelly,

If you want one I may be able to supply a navigator! I have a waiting list here in Houston to be mine in my GT. Bill used an egg timer taped to his dash and did very well. Go to the BBORR web site and go to the forum and they have a thread on computers. Glad to have another newbie, looks to be a great time. We are leaving Houston tuesday before the race if your coming in from the east. You can caravan with us.
