Anyone ever stranded in a GT?

Just curious. I have had 3 GTs, and although I had an issue of one cutting off once, I have never been stranded. Same is true of 11 Vipers.

Anyway here ever had to make the old AAA call?

Back in 2007 I lost my halfshaft bolts on the WAY to getting them replaced at Tomy Hamon Ford!

It was the only time the GT let me down, but I got to meet the great Mr. Hamon as a result, who took me out to lunch as they fixed my car........thereby proving the old cloud/silver lining cliché.

Early on, I seem to recall one or two associated with the 'axle bolt' issues. The thought of being left beside the road, or 'towing' one, quickly caused a good number of the owners to move proactively to get the issue addressed (Ford or ARP solutions). Otherwise, they are a notably robust car.

Yes, would not start. Trailered it home and eventually discovered a dirty battery chassis ground. Gauges were acting up just prior as well and then worked fine after cleaning the connection.

Almost. Blew the coolant hose off and sprayed the engine compartment pretty good and made a mess. I was 2 blocks from home and rolled it in.

Quite a few were due to axle bolts. Mine included.

On a Saturday morning. Called dealer. Said towing was included. Called 800#. Truck dispatched (with extra lumber). Taken to dealer. Parts ordered Monday. Back on the road Tuesday.

Never had a problem after that.

From the guy with the most actual driven miles on the car, that says a lot!!!

sounds like what happened to Torrie - except he ended up standing in a fire ant nest while repairing

OUCH Fire Ants suck!
Just got bit while north of Ft. Worth two weeks ago. Still have the little buggers...

MAD fails to recall his flat tires. I think he has had three. Think his wife doesn't like him?

Yep! A couple of years ago after an uneventful drive to the tennis courts the GT wouldn't start for the ride home. Despite my previous maintenance of the chassis ground, that was the problem. Luckily I was able to diagnose and fix it on the spot. As soon as I got home I re-cleaned the ground connection and then installed a new, redundant cable from the battery to a nearby chassis bolt,

+1 on axle bolts, mine was on the 3rd of july, with my then 2 year old. Hotter than heck. Dealer was still barely open, called a flat bed for me. Minor glitch, in an amazing car.

Never, except in my Z06 in June. Got it towed home and used a scanner to find that I had a bad plug wire. MY GT did have a stalling issue, but would always restart. Lubed the throttle cable assembly and spring just beside the TB and that resolved the issue. Sticky assembly was all it was. Now I have to find some wood to knock... :)

1-Wouldnt start after fuel up at station.

My Bro pushed junction box under hood and it started up.

Sanded chasiss strap and dialectric grease and battery was good for another 2 yrs

2-After cross country trip (on enclosed truck) wouldnt start; driver put charger on for 10min. Fired up, put on Vette CTEK charger for 5days in recondition mode, started & Stillen swapped 6 yr old battery out, all well.

One of my friends bought a slightly used 2005 FGT from a private party in early 2007. On his way home to Phoenix from Tucson he got a flat rear tire. He called the 800# that Ford had set up for GT owners and they immediately sent out a flatbed to take him "where ever" he wanted the car to go. He opted for his garage at home. No charge. They said it was unacceptable for a FGT to be seen sitting beside the road.

Same Thing, but in 2013 with 7000 Miles. Hope this will be the only time.

Hahahahaa ! I blew coolant hoses twice on the same road years apart. The first time was the fire ant fiasco. Man I forgot about that how hilarious.

Re Fire Ants. Having just moved to Florida, Fipronil for the win!

No breakdowns, but I figure a flat tire is only a matter of time. Particularly, since my new rears did not arrive before I left for the Rally. However, a fresh can of the Conti fix-a- flat is in the compressor and a plug kit is behind the driver seat.

I had a half shaft bolt failure after a trip 180 miles long. The lucky thing was I was only a mile from my house ! The car coasted to with in 500 feet from my street!Ran home got my truck and a tow strap.Left my wife stranded!
