I'm thinking about getting seat covers. Anyone buy or use seat covers ?

I'd welcome any suggestions. Ford racing has a pair, but don't they look so great IMHO.
Has anyone thought about protecting the seats ?

I saw them on Atomic's car and thought they looked "sloppy" and just OK. However I am getting a set for the protection value alone.
 
I should have clarified; they are not BADASS to look at but rather wonderful very heavy duty seat covers.

For normal driving they have no interest to me and yet when tinkering in the shop they are perfect protection.

I'm Looking At Getting A Pair. I'll Let You Know How They Are. I'm Planning On Ordering This Week, So It May Take A Little While Before I Get Them In Place. I Hate The Worn Seat Look That My Other Cars Have From My Jeans Rubbing When I Enter And Exit The Cabin.

How are they for driving? I'm thinking I may be putting a bunch of seat time in during the rally and the protection would be nice.
 
If, as Steve mentioned, the 'covers fit sloppy ...what's the difference between the seat covers twisting around atop the seat beneath you as you get in and out, or clean street clothes (no "grubbies") doing the same? :shrug

One of the reasons I only wear slacks when driving my GT is to minimize the "wear" factor that may be created by wearing those as opposed to, say, wearing jeans for example. (Of coarse, there IS the "sweat" factor, I suppose...)

(As an aside, I tried to order a spare pair of the stock leather 'covers for my car just to have 'em at the ready "in case". 'Was told no can do. One would have to buy COMPLETE SEATS...at $3,500 a copy or whatever it was.) :frown

I've had the Ford covers since August. They are heavy cotton canvas, made by the same people who make the car cover that comes with your car. Black only, no holes. You have to soak them in salt water for 30 minutes or so to set the color. The backs fit very nicely and provide a large pocket on the back for extra storage. The seat part does not fit so nicely and does not have an opening for the little basket pouch on the front of your seat, but, I keep my garage door opener there and can still "feel" it to make it work and press the button. I bought them specifically because they protect the leather from sweaty skin in the hot, humid St. Louis weather and also from the many people who want a ride and get in and out of the passenger's side. A big extra is that they also protect the seat during rain. If it hasn't happened to you yet, when the car is wet and you open the door, you WILL get wet as the cutout holds water and splashes the seats quite a bit. The cotton canvas is somewhat waterproof and the water wipes up readily from the seat covers. I've been very happy with them. Ordered mine from Capaldi racing.com at a discount. FJP

I was thinking more along the lines of "sloppy" like in the seats are very clean and forum fitted with a bunch of detail. The covers are a very loose slip-on canvas cover, thus to me look sloppy inside the otherwise clean and tight interior.:shrug ($00.04) LOL

I have a set of these seat covers too. Like MAD I concur with everything Frank says as well...I also identify with MAD and his aversion to rain. :cheers

I bought a set from Ford to put on when I have my car in for service. I notice that mechanics don't care what they have in their pockets, nor what crap/dirt they have on their clothing when getting in to your car.

I would not recommend them for anything else. Like most of us, I bought the car to drive it. The seats are the same. They are meant to be used....and felt. :thumbsup
 
I have a set and only use them when bringing the car in for service or if giving a lot of rides. We had a track day last summer where we were able to give sick kids rides and the seat covers were a must. They fit pretty good and look fine on.
 
Just a suggestion, I bit the bullet and had a very nice set made that fit perfectly by a company in Florida B-Smooth interiors in Pompano. This guy does custom interiors on high end vehicles. I guess you pay for what you get. Had a small amount of cushioning also sewn in with a sport pattern when viewed from the front. I'm sure you could have a full cover in the back, but I chose to use a cap that fits on the very top of the seat revealing the carbon backs for all to see. I believe Stormcat has pictures taken when I visited his shop. I'm sure if you ask nicely he would send them to you.

Well, for a guy who has sloppy seat covers, I'll put in my 2 cents. Got them from Ford Racing, through D'Agostino Racing on their web. They are not the tightest fitting seat covers, but after you have them for a while, you get use to it. I purely bought them for seat protection from scratches, clothing etc. They have the air cooler holes imaged on the covers. Actually they become better and better looking and functionally with time. Cheap investiment for a great car!
