Was thinking about buying a 2015 to add to the stable, but maybe I should wait until engine related issues are sorted out:

Sounds suspiciously like a money shift.

No matter how long you wait there is always gonna be some guy that beats on his car and blows his motor. Unless there was a wide spread issue here I wouldn't put any credit in this failure.

Was it an auto or manual transmission?

The C6 ZO6s had issues with valve guide wear and dropped valves, who knows what the issue is on this C7 ZO6 (operator or mechanical). You're better off waiting until the 2016 models. The 2015 owners have already complained about timing issues by the computer, I am sure GM will work the kinks out, it's their flagship sports car, often however GM turns the elephant by his tail instead of his trunk, so waiting a little might pay off, who knows maybe they'll re-integrate the Wal-Mart style rear wing better with the car's rear end

And those issues have already been rebutted, with proof in the forums! There are now Z06 beating TA's. It's more than likely just a power to weight /gearing issue. It's already been tested and it's not timing being pulled. Read up on it!
