We picked one up to replace a GMC SUV last month. EPA raings are 34 city 31 HWY. Our AVERAGE MPG is 36.7 as of today. Since we live in the boonies this is a significant amount of highway driving included in our average.

We rented an 09 on a vacation last year ans were impressed. We could get up to 30 mph on battery only if I was very light on the throttle. The 10 model rated by Ford to go up to 43 on battery routinely goes 45 on battery alone. It also beats the GMC in every other category except size and a 1000 lb towing capacity.

If you are looking for a family hauler this is the best one I have ever driven.

Last Sept I bought an AWD 2010 Escape Hybrid Limited. Mileage at 60-65 mph is around actual 33-34. My computer display mileage is higher than what I calculate using odometer and gas pumped. My hwy mileage is actually better than my city mileage, even though EPA says opposite. Driving it has turned into a kind of game to see how long I can keep it on battery, without aggravating other drivers. So far I have 7500 miles on it, which is a lot of driving for me. Even my wife likes driving it. It's mileage goes down in very cold weather.

Acceleration was much better than I anticipated. I haven't had any trouble merging onto expressways.

I really enjoy it, however I do miss the door lock button in the rear cargo area that the Explorer and Aviator had.

It is like driving a video game. If the gas motor kicks on you lose. Once they offer larger batteries I'm going to upgrade it. There are a few places that will convert it to plug in. The gas I save is used in the GT.

I do have one suggestion if Ford is listening. Put a green LED on the back and light it up if the car is runnung on battery. I have takled to so many otherwise intelligent people tha are clueless on how a hybrid works.

Another bonus is I have zero brake dust on my wheels so far. Ford claims that 94% of braking energy is reclaimed charging the battery.
