'05 vs '06 FGT... which is better?

I've read the numerous threads discussing the diffs, and I appreciate the thoroughness of the forum contributors. When it's all said and done, is there any reason to prefer the '06 (ceteris paribus)? Is the panel fit or paint felt to be slitely better in '06's? And can I assume all cars have had the A arm issue corrected. I'll pay for an inspection, unless all say it's unnecessary with Shelby or Bernie. many thanks, bma2

Great question....

I just upgraded to the ,06 grille... Cost me about a G.
See no difference.

Do a search lots of threads on the diff.

Bernie and Shelby are straight arrows... I would take their word. Otherwise a PPI is a must.

Hope to welcome you into our owners club!! :)

Which ever one you feel more comfortable with !

With 4k cars, they are all the same except for the grill, springs for latch and metal covers for top cover at plastic fitting to roof.... but the blue book says different! 3

Reality is if you like the gal - buy her!

look forward to adding you to the friends list and see ya in Tx next year BAM!

"Echo" Bony's stmt regarding Bernie & Shelby - as will anybody on The 'Forum. ZERO negative feedback on either gentleman. You can take what they say to the bank.

Re: the diffs, there really are none of any consequence with the possible exception (depending on one's personal view) of the fact that some VERY EARLY '05's had a "speedy sleeve" installed as a remedy for a machining error on a few of the earliest cranks. The pblm "A" arms were all replaced with B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L (and PRICEY!!!) billet units...and all subsequent cars had the updated units.

There are some really MINOR "cosmetic" diffs if one knows where to look, but NOTHING even worth mentioning. Find a car you like at the price you want to pay and forget about the year. :cheers

Want an opinion? Just like ASS****, everybody has one. Here's mine. They are basically all worth close to the same in $$. I PREFER the late 05 cars. Reason being they are past the crankskshaft issue (see search). I generally say 05 last ID 800 or less,in my opinion, are my least favorites. The A-arm isn't an issue to me as billet is kewl. O6's are fine..........the in servive date as far as warranty could be a deal-maker on either year.

need to hear from you multiple owners... is the panel fit and/or paint better with '06? by the way, you multi-owners are way too cool! thanks, bma2

Panel fit is fine. The first few hundred cars might have been a "little " off, but my May '05 #1297 is fine. With billet arms. 12K miles, three track days, and no major problems. I know Bony upgraded to an '06 grill, but putting on a Canadian front end gives a little more protection but adds weight.

cars were built by a team of two up untill 2006 ending in vin # 0800 to 0900(last 5 #s)I owned two 06.the one ending in 1375 was not as well assembled as my current one ending in 0260.after 0900(or there abouts)the cars were assembled by groups at each assemble point. Also 06 cars have very minor improvments(springs on clam shell,et)

The best model year, like the best color, is the one you own. :biggrin However I have a personal policy on cars to never buy the first production year of anything. By the second year any minor bugs are worked out, which is why I bought an '06.....plus the "perfect" color that I wanted was only available on the '06. :lol

The FGT, however seems to not only be built right, but built right from the beginning. I don't think you can go wrong either way. Good luck in your search. You will not be dissappointed. :cheers

I own several 05 and 06 GTs. The fit and finish are indistinguishable to me. You'll find good and less good examples from both years. I'd recommend you find the best example of the color you want and don't worry about the year. Obviously Silver and Tungsten GTs will dictate year if one of those colors is your choice.

What Chris said! :agree:
I have an '05 and an '06 and the fit and finish are indistinguishable between the two IMO.:cheers

I have personally put my hands on over 150 GTs to date. I can tell you that year does not decide if the fit and finish are better or worse. You got to go on a car by car basis. I would be happy to talk about GTs in detail. Give me a call anytime at 1-870-931-8004

Bony nailed it. The only real difference is the '06 grill (improves cooling) which can be changed out for about $1k And the '05 billet A Arms (the super shiny, ultra cool, very expensive replacement for the factory recall).

hey aggie:

05 vs 06

There are many detailed threads on this forum regarding this subject. Lets not rehash all of the details.

In the end the Ford GT was one model made from 2004 to 2006. Minor changes were made along the way with no real regards to year or even month. A year designation was added because of Federal law but a Ford GT is a Ford GT.

+1 - well put! :thumbsup

I think I have those A Arms (the one pictured) on mine Fubar.

Eventually your gonna get a second one - its a disease. My recommendation get an 05 in the color you like and an 06 Heritage......:thumbsup:thumbsup

Have an 05(Quick Silver) and 06(Heritage), love them both. As everyone said differences are minimal and choosing between them is like picking your favorite child.

To read this literally is to infer that you do NOT like the color of your Heritage.....:wink

Or maybe it just means that you "LOVE" your Heritage (as do I mine) :cheers
