Yes, that is a generator, but the Tesla didn't tow it. They had other vehicles with them to tow the generator.

It's a little rectangular rubber tray that sits just in front of the shifter under the radio. Perfect place to put your phone, change, sunglasses, etc. I saw Chip's and wanted to get one, but DBK looked so busy at the auction I didn't want to bother him.
