World's first four second quarter mile run happened thirty years ago today

We were blessed with a run of 4.990 at 288.55 mph on 4/9/1988, the day that seemed to demand it. What a change in the sport since thirty years before, like this picture of my 1958 dragster in the lower right hand of this picture- with Cushman motorscooter front wheels, and a Pontiac v-eight...

Happy Birthday DBK. And thank you for this forum! (Without this forum, I doubt that I would have made it on the new GT approved list, so big special thanks for that!)

    Bob Glidden has passed.

He and his family were racing while we were, and we really admired their family involvement. His passion and dedication was a real inspiration, a high water mark for anyone who aspired to excel. A life well lived. May he rest in peace.

Thanks, Tomy. Was this before your time? The Freeway dragstrip, Houston, 1958, run by the Gay family. That is me in the right front of this picture, with my Cushman scooter front wheels and hubs. Doesn't time fly when you're having fun! Cheers, Eddie FourFather Hill

World's first four second quarter mile run happened 29 years ago today - I was there

Thanks Mike, for the kind words. Both Ercie and I were impressed that you remembered the 4.93 we turned while winning the final over Joe Amato. We actually "outran ourselves" for the national record of 4.93, because of the 1% backup rule. If we had run 4.94 in the final, that would have stood...
