I thought Hotrod did an amazing job on the quest to 300 mph article sort of describing how this all got started with a tribute to the late Ray Hofman. If you have a few minutes to read it, I would say give it a shot.

Thanks,

' Like I say to everyone ‘It’s a built as tough as an F150.’” '

Great line. "Built Ford Tough"

The one thing you get from reading this is that the team doing the work never believed anyone claiming "you can't do that". Instead their belief system was "Of course I can. Let me show you how". [A working mantra I believed in. The very first time someone said that to me it was a challenge to prove THEM wrong.]

Great read, outstanding accomplishment! The article really helps put into perspective the monumental hurdles that were overcome to reach that goal.

Great article! Surprised to see aero on the car that good! We have all read about how original GTs front end would pick up at speed at Lemans!
Nice to see 05-06s still making news like NFGTs!

Great article!

Those shocks were expensive!!!

It was not just the hardware but the time & expertise in setting it up. A race bike can have a custom shock (one shock!) for $5-7K.

Part of the ability for the '05-06 GT to attain extremely high speeds is that it doesn't have lots of downforce. It's aerodynamically almost perfect for high speeds.
