Given that we are now registered to attend the GTForum Reunion Aug 1-5 in California, I have begun investigating shipping of the GT from Bloomfield Hills Michigan to Irvine. Now knowing the cost and thinking about all the other uses I would have for an enclosed trailer, my wife and I are thinking of buying one and doing a "road trip" to Irvine.
I recall several threads on 'trailers' (with photos) and I recall several of you own them...DBK, FloridaChris and others...

I am looking for advice and recommendations from any and all...
Recommended Manufacturers, material, brakes, cost, dimensions that work best..length / width(side door needed) , towing ( I have an Ford Expedition). I have never owned a trailer so I need to learn the ''good and the bad''.
Thanks , Andy

Picking up the Trailex next week. Very light aluminum so it can be towed with a car like an Expedition or a Navigator without having to replace the trans every few thousand miles. Ordered it with a winch to pull the car in and 6" of additional height just in case a taller vehicle needs to be towed. Made sure you can tow bikes in it for my fathers bikes post-retirement (which I'm sure will be useful to you). The door is the side flip door so entry and exit isn't a problem. I didn't order any cabinets or anything because I hear you can buy/build your own units with more flexibility. Got it white so it's easier to take care of.

If you call, ask for Carl Carbon and tell him we sent you.

I'm waiting for my trailer. I bought an aluiminum trailer with the soft top option. Another member just bought a Trailer from these guys as well.
www.tommystrailers.com Mine should be ready next week.

My TRAILEX is on the way! Ordered it a couple of weeks ago. I did the same thing as Florida Chris and DBK. 6" increased head room. I also ordered a tire rack for the extra set.

I am driving from Calgary to Ohio (that's like driving to the moon!) to pick up my trailer. I would only do this because, from what I have seen, the Trailex trailers are pretty much the perfect trailer for the GT. they are light, have great access, and look well built. I spoke with Chris too and he seems to really like his.

Anyway, taht was my pick.....too bad mine won't be ready until July! If you want one order quick. trailex is pretty backed up with orders. All their trailers are tailor made.

Call Carl

I love my Trialex,Its easy can"t beat the siad door.

I haul my GT in a 28 foot Pace Shadow enclosed trailer. The car fits perfectly and I have an extra wide side door that allows me to easily exit the car. The one thing I would recommend to everyone trailering a GT is to get a good winch. I have found it much easier to winch the car in and out rather than the rather risky task of driving it in and out of the enclosed trailer. I tow with a Ford F-350. You don't even know the trailer is behind you! PD

Hi Andy

here you'll find a very nice closed race trailer, I plan to order soon. I don't know if it will be available in the US. You may check.

Type is Race Shuttle RS5 "wide body" to fit the GT. I saw the trailer and it looks geourges.

Please find the link for the brochure with more information and contact infos below. Price (well not quite a bargain) is about 18.000€ plus VAT over here...

Very cool looking trailer. Do they custom make them? The axles look a bit far forward for a rear/mid engine car for proper tongue weight. Just an observation.

Chris,
when I saw the trailer in real it looked well balanced (and very cool). Not like the most boring "cow boxes on wheels". The "wide body" of the RS5 Race Shuttle which one would need for the with of the GT is not standard but will be produced on demand and will take some more time if you place the order to the standard ones as they slice it in two peaces (as they told me) and weld it back together and close the gaps. The nice thing are also the extras like an electric winch, a working bench and a storage space for spare tires at the proximal end. You can even sleep in it if you don't want to leave her :wink
Would look nice with Ford GT racing decals on the sides...

The big question is how much do you want to spend? The good news is that you seem to be able to get most of your money back if you ever decide to sell the trailer. I went budget and bought a 20' Haulmark Thrifty hauler with side door for about $6400. I built an elevated floor so the door would swing out, I have been very pleased. Most people probably have a SUV for towing and I would be leary of towing my GT with a "car" for security sake. !*k is a lot for a trailer unless your going every week or so, IMHO.

Please keep us posted if you go this route. I'd love to see photos of it being built.

You are correct, it would GREAT with Ford GT racing decals on the side. :thumbsup

I totally agree! But 200k for a toy like the GT is also not that bad :wink

Drop me a PM when your Daytona plans are firmed up. :cheers

Will do :cheers

Thanks for the Trailer info..

Thanks to all of you for your input regarding my 'Trailer" Question. It is not often you can 'ask a question' and get so much good input within 24 hours. Another reason this Forum is great. It is truly appreciated. Regardless of what I end up doing, I will see you guys in California this August with my GT.

I regularly tow using a Haulmark Transport Deluxe. Price ranges frrm 6-8000
depending on equipment. I have been happy with the trailer. Plenty of width for a wide stance vehicle. I also use a winch to load the vehicle. Make sure you have enough muscle in your tow vehicle.

I plan to be at the Porsche Rennsport Reunion III in Daytona. Nov. 2-4.
The last one in 2004 was superb. Over 600 race Porsches took part. Porches # 1, 2 & 3 were also there, along with several very historic race cars and their drivers. See www.rennsport2007.com - for more details.
